This position is fully onsite Monday-Friday from 10am-6pm.

Responsibilities

Technicians are certified in installation and maintenance to support DFCI’s 14,000+ port telephony systems.

Perform cable voice/data/fiber installation for adds, moves, and changes associated with small-scale in-house projects. Install and maintain telephone stations, fax lines, and modem lines. Responsible for maintaining all cabling infrastructure for multiple nurse call systems, overhead paging, RTLS, and patient television and distributed antenna systems for cellular/paging. Monitors voice network for carrier trunk activity and failure alerts. Utilizes Telecom-specific software applications to perform minor station changes, reset passwords, and basic maintenance programming. Provides end user support for telephones and other telecom-related peripherals. Completes phone moves on a daily basis via ticketing system and associated work order specifics. Responsible for maintaining Telecom hardware inventory and all associated materials/components necessary to support daily telecom operations. When necessary, participates in meetings with internal project managers and works with external telecom service providers when telecom system integration on projects is necessary. On-call for after hours and emergency support for overall telephone systems equipment, servicing, and repair to ensure operational status on a rotating basis. May be required to perform outside normal job areas at direction of leadman or supervisor in the interest of a safe hospital environment. Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent. Five years+ experience in maintaining, operating, and installing telecommunications systems for a 14,000+ port PBX system. Demonstrated ability to support a multi-node Avaya Communications Manager telecommunications system, i.e. DFCI’s configuration of multiple Avaya G450 and G350 gateways, Avaya Session Managers, AES, CMS, and Aura Messaging. Thorough understanding of telecom systems, including Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) and digital based PBX systems, Local/Data/Voice Area Networks and topology, EIA/TIA building wiring standards and National Electric Code as they pertain to communications wiring. Demonstrate high level of proficiency working with PBX systems, nurse call, and data network connectivity and infrastructure.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Strong technical troubleshooting skills and low voltage service experience preferred. Must be physically able to perform job reliably. Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to utilize tools of the trade; hearing, visual, and speaking ability should be adequate to communicate, understand technical information and perform work. Ability to read and interpret architectural blueprints and utilize various software application tools. Technician will have access to all secure Telecom and Data Network Rooms requiring a high degree of confidentiality and accountability. Must be “self-starter” with high degree of initiative; should feel responsible to perform his job well while working to be fiscally responsible and cost effective while working within approved budget. Open to participate in further educational program opportunities in the field. Must be able to communicate effectively and work with others and to understand and follow instructions and documentation relating to the job.
