**Position Summary**
**Technician Level I** - Entry Level technician position in a multi-level technical position structure. Incumbent demonstrates and applies basic competence in telecommunication systems installation, operation, and maintenance activities as applicable to NPPD’s telecommunications system.
**Technician Level II** - Journey level skilled technician position in a multi-level technical position structure. Incumbent demonstrates and applies broad-based technical competence in telecommunication systems installation, operations, maintenance, and trouble-shooting activities as applicable to NPPD’s telecommunication systems. The incumbent also demonstrates and applies advanced technical expertise at a detailed level in at least three of NPPD’s telecommunications system disciplines serving as technical expert for installation, operations, maintenance and troubleshooting of same. Progression to this level is based on employee’s mastery and application of required skills.
**Technician Level III** - Highest level technician position in a multi-level technical position structure. The incumbent demonstrates and applies advanced technical expertise at a detailed level in at least three of NPPD’s telecommunication system disciplines: serving as technical expert for installation, operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of same, masters two disciplines at the expert systems level and serves as technical advisor and management liaison in several of NPPD’s telecommunications system disciplines. Progression to this level is based on employee’s mastery and application of required skills.
**Education, Training and Experience**
**Technician I, II, or III** - Associate degree in electronics or equivalent military education/experience is required.
Previous telecommunications equipment operations and maintenance experience is desired but not required.
Must demonstrate understanding of basic electrical/electronic theory, the ability to read and understand schematics, the ability to effectively use test equipment used in telecommunications systems and the ability to effectively troubleshoot electronic circuits.
**Progression to Level II** - Must have passed the oral, written, and practical skills testing for Technician Level I of NPPD's Telecommunications Technician Progression Program OR have a minimum of 3 years of equivalent work experience.
**Progression to Level III** - Must have passed the oral, written, and practical skills testing for Technician Level II of NPPD's Telecommunications Technician Progression Program OR have a minimum of 5 years of equivalent work experience.
Progression to Level Ill Technician is based on employee's demonstration of advanced skills as outlined in Level Ill Technician requirements.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
**Telecommunications Technician I**
+ Completing work assignments and working with internal and external customers to satisfy their requirements. SAP reporting and authorization processes along with general telecommunication reporting and tracking requirements.
+ Installation, troubleshooting, repair, testing and general maintenance of telecommunication systems.
+ Applies skills and knowledge acquired through technical training to perform tasks and resolve issues associated with telecommunications systems and equipment.
+ Responds to customer service requests in a timely manner. Resolves stated problems or issues to the customer’s satisfaction.
+ Must be able to travel, be on call, and be available for work on short notice as needed.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
**Telecommunications Technician II**
In addition to being proficient in all duties of a Level I Technician, the Telecommunications Technician II will be responsible for the following:
+ Performs detailed operation and maintenance work in three of the seven disciplines (Carrier, Radio, Telephone, Data, Scada, Network Lines, and Network Channels).
+ Assists Technician Level I personnel in all work requirements where experienced technical skills are needed. Provides technical support to engineering groups (Telecommunications and TSE). Performs all preventative maintenance plans for systems in the qualified disciplines. Completes Telecommunications Technician Progression Program requirements for a Level II Technician requirements within five years.
+ Installation, troubleshooting, repair, testing and general maintenance of telecommunication systems.
+ Applies skills and knowledge acquired through technical training to perform tasks and resolve issues associated with telecommunication systems and equipment. Serves as technical resource to other technicians.
+ Responds to customer service requests in a timely manner. Is effective in interviewing and probing techniques necessary to identify problems, determining root cause, and applying required corrective action. Resolves problems or issues to the customer’s satisfaction. Counsels customers on issues of a technical nature.
+ Must be able to travel, be on call, and be available for work on short notice as needed.
+ Works within SAP reporting and authorization processes and general telecommunication reporting and tracking requirements to perform daily work routines. Advises other technicians regarding the same.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
**Telecommunications Technician III**
In addition to being proficient in all duties of a Level I _and_ Level II Technician, the Telecommunications Technician III will be responsible for the following:
+ Performs detailed operation and maintenance work in four of the seven disciplines (Carrier, Radio, Telephone, Data, Scada, Network Lines, and Network Channels) and expert work in two of the disciplines. Assists Level I and II Technician personnel in all work requirements where experienced/expert technical skills are needed.
+ Installation, troubleshooting, repair, testing and general maintenance of telecommunication systems.
+ Applies skills and knowledge acquired through technical training to perform tasks and resolve issues associated with telecommunication systems and equipment. Serves as technical consultant and advisor to other technicians. Collaborates with management on technical and strategic issues regarding telecommunications.
+ Responds to customer service requests in a timely manner. Is effective in interviewing and probing techniques necessary to identify problems, determining root cause, and applying required corrective action. Resolves problems or issues to the customer’s satisfaction. Counsels and advises customers and telecommunication department management on issues of a technical nature.
+ Must be able to travel, be on call, and be available for work on short notice as needed.
+ Works within SAP reporting and authorization processes and general telecommunication reporting and tracking requirements to perform daily work routines. Advises other technicians regarding the same.

**Salary Information** _-_ Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date.
