JOB SUMMARY:
To provide specialized advanced technical skills in all technical aspects of the telemetry monitoring system.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Operates and troubleshoots all functions of the telemetry monitoring system:o Admits, transfers, and discharges patient and enters all required information in telemetry monitoring system.
o Adjusts alarms.
o Reviews trends and alarms.
o Cleans and maintains telemetry monitors/holders and accounts for monitor upon patient discharge.
o Accounts for all monitors at the end of each assigned shift.
o Orders monitoring supplies.
o Obtains and documents rhythm strips per unit/department standards
o Maintains log book on all monitored patients.
Provides precise continual surveillance and analysis of cardiac rhythms on electrocardiographic Central Station:o Interprets EKG rhythms.
o Recognizes significant EKG events.
o Communicates information to the responsible individual within an appropriate time frame.
o Immediately reports significant or life threatening changes to a RN.
Participates in orienting and teaching of nursing staff, physicians and students as related to monitoring equipment. Assists with maintenance of unit equipment.o Performs daily quality checks of freestanding cardio-defibrillators.
Maintains a safe environment:o Ensures that equipment has current electrical and maintenance inspections.
o Reports all malfunctioning equipment.
Provides age appropriate interaction and care as indicated. Uses aseptic techniques and infection control measures in performance of duties. Recognizes patient care priorities, treatment plans, objectives, and potential crisis. Respects and supports patient / family rights. Practices positive guest and peer relations. Participates in and supports quality improvement activities. Demonstrates acceptable productivity and practices cost containment. Functions as an interdependent and supportive team member. Participates in and promotes the development of self and others. Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of EMT – Paramedic program or graduation from related allied health sciences program or one (1) year related experience. Passing score of 80% or higher of UTMB’s arrhythmia test.
