Telemetry Tech/HUC - ICU (0.75 FTE) - Dayshift

Provides indirect care in the department setting under the direction of the Director, Manager or designee, and the Charge Nurse. Enters orders into the medical record and faxes and/or copies to the appropriate destination.  Provides transcription from and into the medical record as required from the computerized physician order entry system.  Performs detailed and accurate assignments and compiles information to ensure accurate records. Works directly with Hospitalist, Surgeon, Pulmonologist providers to coordinate patient care including admission, discharge, and transfer. Coordinates patient transfers with Inpatient providers, receiving facilities and transport team (ambulance, air, other). Requires working knowledge of the Vocera, Pulsara, Maintains work area in neat and orderly manner, being mindful of infection control practices and safety initiatives established by the facility.  Follows established policies and procedures for copying and printing of patient health information for transport to other medical facilities.  Follows hospital compliance policy related to patient medical record access, HIPPA regulations, and follows organization Behavioral Standards.  

 

Assists staff to safely transport patients to other departments.  Assists nursing staff in re-stocking of rooms, nursing station, and kitchen area.  Retrieves blood products and medications from tube system. Monitors and records EKG telemetry rhythm strips per policy for both the ICU, Advanced Medical Unit and telemetry patients throughout the organization. Performs interpretation of rhythms and documentation of specific EKG measurements when telemetry certification is obtained. Fields phone calls from various telemetry patients’ nurses, makes phone calls to telemetry patients’ nurses when changes in patient rhythms occur, and keeps telemetry equipment cleaned and inventoried.  Orders office supplies, completes work orders, and puts away department supplies keeping the department work area clean and organized.  Assists Director, Manager, A of the Day and Advanced Medical Unit nursing staff by completing other duties as assigned.  Communicates with EVS staff for the cleaning of rooms. Communicates with charge nurses, HUCs, A of the Day, hospitalist physicians, and additional staff within St Peter’s Health as needed on behalf of the department. See Orientation Competency Inventory (OCI).

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: 2 years hospital experience preferred. Medical terminology is strongly recommended.  Previous experience in clerical or receptionist position required. Prior telemetry training preferred.

EDUCATION: High School graduate or equivalent.  Completes all mandatory education as required and assigned.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: BLS certification required.  Telemetry training/certification required within 6 months of hire.
