Temp. Farm Equipment Operator (ZX Ranch)

SUMMARY

Operates heavy equipment and related implements to accomplish various assigned construction ranch/farming tasks by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Constructs and maintains ranch fences, including barbed wire fences, wooden corrals, and pipe fences. Assist with feeding cattle during the winter months. This may include but is not limited to operating machinery to load and feed hay, feeding hay by hand and operating machinery to transport hay to different locations on the ranch. Employees must be able to keep a detailed record of hay fed including location, type, date, and amount. Maintain/develop water systems for livestock drinking water; such as fix breaks in pipeline/replace spring boxes and/or develop a new source of drinking water for livestock on range. Ensures preventive maintenance work is scheduled and completed.     Analyze a project and produce a list of project material and a time from for each jobs.   Operate heavy equipment such as Ag tractors, water trucks, cement trucks, backhoes, bulldozers, loaders, and graders to perform maintenance and/or construction projects. Basic welding skills to fix and/or build corrals. Performs light maintenance on equipment such as replenishing fuel, checking oil levels, etc.; ensures equipment is serviced in a timely manner by mechanics. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors. QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Two or more years related agricultural experience. Good welding experience to include tig, mig is a plus LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to employees and managers of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must be a licensed Oregon driver.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Demonstrated ability in the operation of various pieces of heavy construction equipment and specialized farm equipment.  Ability to properly mix and apply agricultural chemicals and fertilizers. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  Work may be performed in pens with animals present. 

 

 

This job will require limited travel to company ranches and fields.  May require nights away while working on equipment/repairs.  Company vehicle may be provided. Housing not provided for this position.
