Position Availability: September 23 Position Title: Temporary Assistant Costume Shop Manager Requisition Number: 0206074323 Location New York City Position Type: Administrative Position Status: Temporary/Seasonal Department: Drama/Productions Responsibilities: The College of Performing Arts at The New School is seeking a highly qualified Temporary Assistant Costume Shop Manager to join the Production Department. The Costume Department is responsible for the production and delivery of garments as designated and discussed by the Costume Designer, Design Team, and Production Staff, along with the Hair and Makeup Department and Costume Shop Supervisor on a show-by-show basis. The Temp Assistant Costume Shop Manager supports the costume shop in sending out scheduling/reminders for measurements and fittings for all  productions, in the management of costume coordinators and student worker support, and interdepartmental relations. 
The Temp Assistant Costume Shop Manager is a professional, positive, well-organized, self-disciplined individual who takes direction well and is self-sufficient in giving direction when the Costume Shop Manager is unavailable. The Temp Assistant Costume Shop Manager reports to the Costume Shop Manager.

Responsibilities  Support all productions  assigned to cover per semester Maintain and manage costume stock at 151 Bank Street; restock costumes with student costume workstudy help once a week Arranging costume rentals from outside organizations as well as gathering costumes for various pre-approved classroom or class showcase needs Support designers for stock pulls Attend all assigned technical rehearsals and designer runs (minimum 1 per production) Keep the shop, fitting room, stock, and dressing room areas clean and organized, including keeping track of garments per show and progress on items, such as returns or in progress notes.  Attend fittings and keep record of all notes discussed in fittings Delegate and oversee the process for work note tasks, from fittings and tech to appropriate overhire shop staff on assigned productions Handle communications between student performers and workers, as well as outside hires, to serve as a liaison between education and production, on assigned productions.  Supervise the Costume Shop when costume shop manager is not present Supervising Load In and Strike as needed Assist in collection of returns/exchanges, receipts, petty cash, and any other paperwork or physical materials at the end of each show that must be returned to production management or shop management; Managing own expense reports, show budgeting, etc. Additional responsibilities as assigned

Work Mode This position has an expectation of being onsite 5 days a week, for 30-35 hours per week.  Some nights and weekends are required for tech, with an assumption of 40 hours for that week. During those weeks, you may be onsite for up to 6 days a week, or as assigned by the Costume Shop Manager. All conflicts must be communicated in person and marked on the Google Calendar for the Costume Shop. FALL SEMESTER DATES: September 23, 2024 – December 13, 2024 SPRING SEMESTER DATES: January 21, 2025 – May 16, 2025 Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Bachelor of Arts or equivalent professional experience 2 years of experience in Wardrobe in a Theatrical Setting 2+ years of experience Stitching in a Theatrical Setting Possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills appropriate for a professional, educational environment Basic stitching by hand, machine, and serger Team-oriented approach to problem solving and strong collaborative skills. Experienced or able to learn and develop fluency in The New School’s suite of applications including Google Suite, Microsoft Office, WorkDay, Airtable, Nowsta, Aismut, and Photoshop.
