About the Department

To achieve its goals the EOP works closely with the Office of Legal Counsel, Human Resources, and Campus and Student Life in collaboration with academic and administrative leaders throughout the University.

Job Summary:

The Temporary Equity Specialist / Deputy Title IX Coordinator is a part-time (19.5 hours/week) administrative position reporting directly to the Director, Response and Support Services within UChicago CARES (the Center for Awareness, Resolution, Education and Support) and indirectly to the Associate Provost for Equal Opportunity Programs/ Title IX Coordinator. The Temporary Equity Specialist is responsible for assisting with the oversight of the initial intake process and ongoing support services for complaints of discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct under the related University Policies made against students, faculty, other academic appointees, postdoctoral researchers, and third-parties. The Temporary Equity Specialist also works closely with colleagues within EOP to create and maintain a holistic approach to prevention, education, support, and response in support of all members of the campus community, consistent with the University’s compliance efforts related to non-discrimination.

Responsibilities:

Case management (50%)

Assist in the oversight of the initial response to student and academic reports of discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct, including sexual assault, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking through outreach and initial intake, including providing information regarding supportive measures, resources, and referrals to University resolution processes, as appropriate. Conducts intakes with reporting individuals, as needed.

Conduct and coordinate necessary safety and compliance follow-up in response to reports, including, but not limited to, conducting campus safety analysis, identifying timely warnings and campus security threats in collaboration with the Department of Safety and Security.

Autonomously determines and manages the implementation of supportive measures with campus partners.

Analyze and utilize data to design and implement projects related to matters under the related University policies and processes, and work on cross functional teams to advance the development of University policies, processes, and resolution options.

Coordinates and monitors department compliance with minimal guidance.

Proactively prepares, completes and submits all compliance documentation on a routine basis.

This work is completed independently and autonomously with minimal guidance.

Lead projects as directed by the Executive Director and Associate Provost on related University policy and process development and case management.

Performs other related work as needed.

Data & Reporting (50%)

Maintain, in partnership with Director, a case management database to organize, manage, and track reports.

Ensure proper documentation and tracking of incoming reports.

Conduct and document campus safety analysis on reports received.

Assist Director in the preparation of annual compliance reports.

Performs other related work as need.

Competencies:

Ability to work on multiple projects and cases simultaneously in an intense and fast-paced environment, set priorities, and meet deadlines.

Knowledge of relevant laws in a higher education setting (e.g., Title IX, VAWA/Campus SaVE, FERPA, Clery).

Excellent oral,  written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and information with absolute discretion.

Ability to resolve complex problems.

Leadership, program management, and conflict resolution required.

Judgment and maturity in dealing effectively with student emergencies required.

Ability to consider all points of view with reason, common sense, and empathy and work toward outcomes that resolve the situation and may set precedent for the future required.

Demonstrated teamwork skills to lead and collaborate with a wide range of constituents required.


Additional Requirements​​
 

Education, Experience, or Certifications:

Education:

College or university degree required.

Master’s degree preferred.

Training in Title IX certification programs preferred.

Experience:

Knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline required.

Experience providing services to individuals experiencing harassment, discrimination, and sexual misconduct preferred.

Technical Knowledge or Skills:

Experience managing electronic case management systems, such as Maxient preferred.

Working Conditions:

Some evening/weekend work required

This is a remote position (19.5 hours/week)
