Temporary - HEOP Coach
Responsibilities: Program Description: The New School Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program is a New York State Education Department–funded program that offers financial, academic, and socio-emotional support for five years of undergraduate study and related educational activities. It is designed specifically for economically and educationally disadvantaged students who might not meet traditional college admissions criteria but demonstrate promise and potential for academic achievement and success. At The New School, the HEOP office is housed under the Office of Equity and Belonging in which they will coordinate, evaluate, and administer academic, and operational activities of the program to foster student growth and success. Temporary HEOP Coach is a part-time role (up to 28 hours a week) and will report to the Associate Provost for Equity & Belonging from October 2024 through December 2024, with potential for possible extension. Responsibilities: + Supervise the HEOP Graduate Assistant + Assist Associate Provost for Equity and Belonging with gathering data and preparing required annual reports for NYSED + Design, manage, and facilitate college success workshops + Facilitate weekly staff meetings, attend one-on-one meetings with the Associate Provost for Equity and Belonging as well as professional development opportunities + Manage retention initiatives for HEOP students including but not limited to attending college fairs, interviewing prospective students, and reviewing financial eligibility documentation in collaboration with the Associate Provost for Equity and Belonging + Provide academic, personal, financial, crisis, and career advice and planning in collaboration with academic support services, and college deans leading to the retention and graduation of a caseload of HEOP students and maintaining accurate case files on each student in the caseload. + Collaborate with the Office of Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and Registrar to support students in completing all financial and state aid applications while adhering to all institutional and federal financial deadlines + Serve as a liaison with faculty, tutors, staff, and administration to monitor student progress + Provide operational and programmatic support for the First Generation Program as needed Work Mode: Hybrid/Split – Employees hired for this position have a regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. Salary Range: $25 per hour Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications/Abilities: + Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or related field with 4-5 years experience in educational program management + Demonstrated ability to develop academic and other programs for opportunity programs + Demonstrated ability to manage administrative and supervisory experience in a fast-paced working environment + Experience with grant management, developing and managing budgets + Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, computer skills, and attention to detail + Must work occasional evenings and weekends in support of programs, activities, conferences, and training + Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Google, applications, and marketing/flier software + Demonstrated project management, and time management skills, with the ability to manage the details of multiple projects + Ability to work easily and effectively with staff and faculty colleagues across the College while adhering to the highest standards of professionalism + Demonstrated ability to engage in active listening, be a team player, reinforce boundaries with students, and exude a great deal of flexibility and adaptability Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications: + Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field 4-5 years experience in educational program management + Skilled in Canvas, Tableau, Banner and DegreeWorks
