Description of Job
This position will be responsible for the various aspects of hunting and fishing outreach clinics and programs across the entirety of the NE Region, including the Denver-Metro Area, I-25 corridor, Fort Collins, Loveland, Greeley, Brush, Idaho Springs, Estes Park and South Park. This position will function as the primary contact for angling program requests from partnering organizations and CPW staff. Additionally this position will assist the Hunting Outreach Coordinator with related outreach programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Serve as the primary point of contact for NE Region Angling Outreach Programs.
+ Manage scheduling of angling program requests from partnering organizations.
+ Create, schedule and promote fishing clinics and programs.
+ Manage participant rosters, e-mails, phone calls regarding program details and inquiries.
+ Work closely with CPW volunteers and outside organizations to coordinate clinics through email/phone calls and in-person interactions.
+ Train new CPW volunteers and partnering organizations the fundamentals of the “Fishing is Fun” program.
+ Scheduling, leading and working with volunteers.
+ Teach angling techniques and related outdoor concepts including leave-no-trace, CPW laws and regulations and outdoor recreation ethics to public participants.
+ The position will also assist the Northeast Region Education Coordinator, Customer Service Representatives and other statewide and region staff with duties as assigned.
+ The applicant needs to be willing to work most weekends and some evenings depending on when outreach events are scheduled.
+ The applicant will be expected to work 40 hours per week on a flex-plan schedule.
+ The selected applicant will be required to have an annual fishing license and fully understand the Colorado laws and regulations pertaining to angling activities.
+ Organize, maintain and distribute equipment and gear.
+ Be willing to travel to locations outside of the Denver/metro area for outreach programs.
+ Assemble and distribute fishing rods, organize and repair equipment related to outdoor recreation.
+ Assist with hands-on hunting clinics and seminars.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
+ Self-motivated and proactive in spending time efficiently with attention to detail.
+ Excellent communication and customer service skills (written and verbal).
+ Excellent organization; ability to balance multiple responsibilities while working independently.
+ Demonstrated ability to build relationships, whether during one or many interactions with internal and external customers.
+ At least 18 years old.
+ Experience with a variety of angling techniques including fly fishing, bait casting, lure casting for both warm water and cold water fish species
+ Knowledge of Colorado hunting regulations and techniques.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Applications.
+ Able to get to the office reliably and comfortable traveling alone if applicable.
+ Ability to tow a small single axle trailer full of equipment.
+ Valid driver’s license.
+ A background check, valid driver’s license with good driving record and CPW violations check will be conducted prior to hiring.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Experience teaching is highly preferred.
+ Multilingual (Spanish or ASL preferred).
+ Knowledge and skills with hand and power tools
+ Preference for individuals with teaching/education background or interests.
+ Possession of a hunter education/safety certificate
+ Passion for natural resources, conservation, environmental education, fishing, or similar areas.
+ Collaborative, driven, and committed team player.
+ Willingness and enthusiasm to support a wide variety of employees and volunteers from behind the scenes and in the field.
