Description of Job Mueller State Park has over 5,000 acres of spring-fed meadows, forested ridges and massive rocks of Pikes Peak Granite with several ponds that dot the landscape. This application is for all, current, open seasonal positions at the park. Please select which position(s) you are applying for. INTERNSHIP Education, Volunteer and Outreach:This position will support the education, volunteer and outreach section at Mueller State Park with a specific focus on volunteer and event management. Daily communication and interaction with volunteers and park visitors. Support the section through volunteer coordination, engagement, training, and recruitment; As well as event coordination and evaluation. This position will also work with volunteer naturalists to create and provide a variety of outdoor recreation and education programs for park visitors. While you’ll have some primary job responsibilities, we want you to go out and explore! Depending on your interests this might include shadowing biologists, going on ride-alongs with Park Rangers and Wildlife Officers, visiting fish hatcheries, helping at education and outreach events, assisting with trail or restoration projects, and more. This is a great opportunity for someone who knows they are interested in a Natural Resources career but wants to learn more about different options. Specific duties include but are not limited to: + Communicate important details with volunteers scheduled to come to the park based on their role and shift. + Coordinate volunteer appreciation events, including assisting with the annual volunteer banquet. + Use an online volunteer platform (CPW Connect) to send monthly volunteer newsletters. + Create volunteer activities in CPW Connect. + Input volunteer hours as needed in CPW Connect. + Communicate with volunteer naturalists each month to create the Mueller event schedule in the Google App Suite. + Assist volunteer naturalists with programs as needed. + Provide outdoor recreation and education programs as needed when volunteers aren’t available. + Promote and market volunteer programs via social media and other avenues. + Recruit new volunteers via social media, informational materials and recruitment events. + Assist coordinating the annual Outdoor Skills Day. + Coordinate and attend the Woodland Park Farmer’s Market regularly with the help of volunteers. + Research and attend other outreach opportunities for the park with the goal to support the Teller County community. + Promote events via social media, info at the park and marketing materials in the community. + Communicate with park staff regarding volunteer and outreach events at the park. PARK MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN/CABIN HOUSE KEEPER: Responsible for all general park maintenance and cleaning of public facilities including: restrooms, showers, vault toilets, campsites, picnic areas, trails, etc. Responsible for maintenance and cleaning cabins. Operates and perform routine maintenance on State owned vehicles and equipment. Assures quality customer service and facility maintenance, repair and cleanliness. Provides information and assistance to visitors. VISITOR SERVICES TECHNICIAN: A customer service based position that involves working in a visitor center or gate entrance, greeting visitors, or may be assigned to work in the field in specialized duties as some parks. Daily interaction with park visitors requires effective communication and public relations skills. + Staff the park entrance station and/or the visitor center. + Provide information and assistance to visitors (distributes maps/brochures, orients visitors to park facilities and amenities, promotes education programs, educates on State Park regulations, etc.) + Provide information to the boating and non-boating public. + Sell parks passes, permits, books, maps, clothing, firewood and other novelties. + May sell gift certificates, search and rescue cards, boat registrations, OHV registrations and snowmobile registrations, fishing and hunting licenses. + Operate a cash register. + Answering of telephones and transferring/taking messages. + Photo-copying and filing. + Collects revenue, completes shift report and balances shift box at end of each shift. + May prepare campground reservations forms and documents. + May document and report visitor complaints. + Cleaning and light maintenance duties of interior and exterior of gates, visitor center and/or offices, including litter pick up. + May assist with special events or programs within the park. + Other duties as assigned TRAIL CREW MEMBER:This is a position designed to maintain and improve existing trail systems on the State Park (hundreds of miles of heavily used trails throughout the park). This position is tasked with motorized trail as well as non-motorized trail maintenance. Crew members may work alone or in a group and will be provided assistance with duties, if necessary. + Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. + This position often works in the backcountry. + Hand tools, chain saws, Off-Highway Vehicles (OHV's), skid steer/tractor, etc. will be used to complete tasks. + May be called on to assist other positions such as maintenance, rangers or visitor services at times. + This is a manual labor position that requires Crew Member to be outdoors and exposed to the elements on a daily basis. + Must have or be able to attain First Aid and CPR certifications. + Must be able to perform physical work in adverse conditions. + Must be able to work various shifts, weekends and holidays. + Previous trail supervision experience preferred. PARK OPERATIONS INTERNSHIP (Internship available): Perform duties related to overall management of the State Park including maintenance, customer service, trails maintenance and construction, resource management, campground operations, law enforcement and winter recreation. Position will assist with all areas of daily park operations. INTERPRETIVE ASSISTANT:This is a customer service based position that involves facilitating park interpretive and environmental education programs. Develop and present natural resources/historical related programs to park visitors. Specific duties include but are not limited to: + Schedule, plan and present Junior Ranger programs, school and group programs, campfire programs and guided hikes, outreach programs + Provide roving interpretation in campgrounds and day use areas + Work with individual and group volunteers, State, Federal and local agency naturalists + May train volunteer naturalists + Market and promote attendance at programs + May develop brochures and other written materials + May work the visitor center front desk + May assist with special events or programs within the park + Collect, catalog, organize and protect park collections of slides, photographs, specimens, etc. + Attend assigned training sessions + Must be at least 21 years of age. + Applicants must have one year previous experience in interpretive and environmental education programming including developing and leading guided hikes, campfire programs, interpretive writing, working with volunteers, etc. + Must have or be able to attain valid current First Aid and CPR certifications during employment. + Must be self-motivated, be an accomplished public speaker and have good writing skills. + Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds during the course of a workday.
