Wage/Salary: $20.00-$22.00 | Non-Exempt | Full Time
Position Summary:
The Tax Preparer provides free, quality tax return preparation for eligible taxpayers. Using the information provided by the client, and by asking follow-up questions, completes the tax return and reviews the final return with the client. To establish and ensure the greatest degree of trust, the Tax Preparer/Quality Reviewer is responsible for preparing accurate tax returns and must uphold the highest ethical standards. The Tax Preparer/Quality Reviewer needs to ensure that every client receives quality service and that every tax return prepared is reviewed for accuracy.
Essential Job Functions:
+ Interview the client to determine that all income, deductions, and credits.
+ Ensure the intake process is performed completely and accurately.
+ Verify the client's personal information (name, social security) and banking information.
+ Prepare the client's return, based on the information provided by the client on the intake form.
+ Prepare tax returns for which training, and certification were provided.
+ Ensure the return has been quality reviewed on completion by a 2nd preparer authorized to undertake the quality review.
+ Refer clients to use self-prep for those clients with complex returns, who cannot be served, to the IRS website.
+ At all times, adhere to IRS standards of conduct, including but not limited to, protecting client privacy and confidentiality.
+ Accept no payment or other compensation of any kind from the client.
+ Inform/refer the client to the other services offered through the VITA site
+ Have the client sign the applicable authorization documents for electronic filing.
+ Complete all administrative activities related to the completion of the client's return.
Experience and Education:
+ Must be certified at the Advanced level on IRS Link and Learn and attend in-person TaxSlayer tax preparation software training provided by Single Stop.
+ Attend and successfully complete the training to be certified by the IRS.
+ Knowledge of Tax law and forms 1040,1040A, and 1040EZ.
+ Basic computer skills for inputting tax return data into the tax preparation software.
+ Ability to communicate effectively, including the ability to interview clients about personal, and financial matters and communicate tax issues to clients in a non-threatening manner.
+ Ability to effectively research tax issues, using the materials available at the site.
+ Ability to deal with the public in a helpful and supportive manner.
+ Friendly, dependable, and flexible, and detail-oriented.
+ Candidates should know about personal income taxes as well as tax law knowledge.
+ Must be able to balance competing priorities and work on multiple tasks, often on a time-sensitive basis.
+ Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a definite plus.
