Tenure Track: Assistant Professor Soil and Crop Sciences Location College Station Open Date 10/1/2024 Position ID 149283 Description The Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M invites applications for one full-time, tenure track position with a 9-month academic appointment beginning January 1, 2025. Applicants will be considered for the faculty title of Assistant Professor based on qualifications. The successful candidate will provide leadership for a research and teaching program in the Soil and Crop Sciences Department with emphasis on sustainability and safety of turfgrass systems in urban and peri-urban environments. The responsibilities include development of a nationally recognized research program in sustainable turfgrass systems. Research program efforts will focus on environmentally sustainable turf systems, which may include precision turfgrass management, interaction of management practices on turfgrass performance and/or sports injuries, interaction of plants and soils on water and nutrient use efficiency, and/or management of abiotic and biotic (weeds, insects, or diseases) stresses in turfgrasses. The research program should address needs of industry stakeholders through development of applied research-based information for the refinement of management strategies that reduce cultural inputs used on turfgrass areas across the state including residential and commercial lawns, parks, sports fields and golf courses. These efforts should lead to aesthetically and functionally enhanced green spaces that contribute to improved human health and well-being. These efforts should also contribute to more safe and durable sports field surfaces for amateur and professional sports that contribute to improved physical health for youth and professional athletes. Research activities should complement existing turfgrass research/extension programs in the department, as well as collaborate with the Texas A&M AgriLife turfgrass genetics and breeding program efforts. Teaching responsibilities will include teaching 3 undergraduate courses annually, as well as providing co-leadership of Texas A&M Turfgrass Management Club. Additional responsibilities include advising graduate students and participating in Departmental, College and University service. Candidates need to be proficient in leadership and oral and written communications skills; skilled in the use of computers, and pass a criminal background check. Qualifications Ph.D. in Turfgrass Science, Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science or closely related field with training/experience in Turfgrass management. Demonstrated success in grant writing and publishing, and land grant university experience is preferred. Ideal candidates will also have significant teaching experience at the college/school level in the field or in a related field.
