The School of Integrative Biological and Chemical Sciences ( SIBCS ) at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (Edinburg campus) seeks applicants for a tenure-track position in the field of plant medicinal biochemistry. We are particularly interested in applicants whose research intersects with dimensions of human health, such as biosynthesis of pharmaceutics and medicinally privileged molecules, biomimetic synthesis, biochemical evaluations, enzyme activities, or medicinal plant chemistry; however, all candidates with relevant profiles will be considered. Successful applicants may do research that integrates across molecular, cellular, organ and whole-plant scales, and involves identification, characterization, and validation of novel plant-derived natural products of medicinal importance. Candidates should provide evidence of a track record and strong potential for significant productivity in interdisciplinary research and be expected to demonstrate a capacity to develop an internationally recognized, extramurally funded research program. Externally funded research and upper-level course teaching experience are both considered a plus. Successful candidates will be expected to develop an independent research program and actively collaborate in research and grantsmanship with members in the School of Integrative Biological and Chemical Sciences as well as other faculty at UTRGV and outside the University for impacting the RGV & beyond. The successful candidate will teach at undergraduate and/or graduate levels and contribute to advising students in the Master’s programs in the SIBCS (e.g., Chemistry, BCMB , or Biology), and to a forthcoming Ph.D. program in Integrative Life Sciences. Professional service to the School, College and beyond is expected. Faculty are expected to involve both undergraduate and graduate students in research activities and should have a strong commitment to educate a diverse body of students in a Hispanic-serving institution.

Department/CollegeBackground:The school of Integrative Biological and Chemical Sciences ( SIBCS ) at UTRGV , located on the Edinburg and Brownsville campuses, comprises faculty and staff committed to research and education in the life sciences. Faculty expertise in cancer, neurobiology, organellar dynamics, organismal biology and evolution, astrobiology, microbiology, cellular and molecular biology, plant genetic engineering, organic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, environmental chemistry, nanomaterials, materials science, and other emerging areas provide collaborative opportunities within the SIBCS .
Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. in one of the following areas: Plant Biology, Biochemistry, Plant Chemistry, Natural Product Chemistry, or related field with demonstrated strongly potential for research productivity and extramural funding.

Preferred Qualifications
Applicants with postdoc research experience and those with experience teaching upper-level or graduate-level courses in plant biology, biochemistry, plant chemistry, natural product chemistry are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have an active research program, experience in teaching/working with a diverse student body, and the ability to use technology and pedagogy to support teaching and learning.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
