Required License/Registration/Certification None Job Summary The Department of Economics at the University of Kentucky is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-eligible position at the Assistant Professor level in our Special Title Series with a preferred start date of August 2025.
Position Description The Department of Economics seeks candidates for a Special Title Series faculty position in the department. This position involves instruction primarily at the undergraduate level with the possibility of teaching a Master’s level course periodically. We seek a candidate with at least five years of undergraduate teaching experience and proven teaching excellence in the classroom as well as online. The candidate should be comfortable teaching classes ranging in size from 20 to 500 students. We also value experience at department level undergraduate program administration. This administrative experience should include curriculum development and student recruitment along with a willingness to advise undergraduate student organizations and facilitate participation in undergraduate competitions. A demonstrated research record with publications in the areas of economic education and pedagogy, along with a current, active research agenda, is also essential. This position includes service to the department, college, and university.This is a tenure track, Special Title Series position, at the level of Assistant Professor. The criteria for promotion from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor and Full Professor follow the criteria established for Special Title Series faculty at the University of Kentucky, Department of Economics. These criteria relate to productivity in teaching, research, and service at the levels of Assistant, Associate, and Professor.
Salaries are competitive. Consideration of applications and interviews will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities: This Special Title Series position requires:1) Teaching: The faculty member will be responsible for teaching 9 hours per semester for a 3/3 course load. This load may be adjusted based on administrative duties. In addition, the successful candidate will have an established record of innovation in the classroom.2) Administration: There are various roles which this candidate might be asked to take on such as serving. In particular, the successful candidate should have experience as the Director of Undergraduate Studies for both a College of Business and a College of Arts and Sciences. Also, experience overseeing all aspects of undergraduate assessment for both Colleges. The successful candidate should have experience providing both academic and career advising for students and experience advising student run organizations. The successful candidate should also have experience leading summer abroad programs. Finally, the successful candidate will be expected to organize and run the Econ Games for the department.3) Research/Scholarly Activity: The faculty member will perform scholarly activities commensurate with this Special Title Series appointment. These include publishing scholarly research and presenting at conferences, particularly on topics such as the effectiveness of innovations such as the use of technology in the classroom.4) Service: The faculty member will serve on department, college, and university committees.
