We are seeking one tenure-track Assistant Professor and one Associate Professor with Tenure Review Upon Hire (TRUH). The successful candidates will conduct original research in their area(s) of expertise, teach core and elective courses in our undergraduate and graduate Urban Planning programs, mentor and advise PhD students, and provide service to the department, college, university, and community. We seek candidates whose research and teaching build upon, complement, or enhance the strengths of our current faculty. We are particularly interested in candidates who can teach economic development, urban technology (including data visualization), environmental planning, or planning law, and whose research contributes to knowledge and practice related to equity, urban regeneration, mobility, or community resilience. We welcome a range of rigorous research methodologies, especially from those whose work engages underserved, disadvantaged, or vulnerable communities. The ideal candidates will work closely with faculty and students within Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. programs and may also teach across the disciplines found in the Department. The Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning is one of the few in the country that is home to three disciplines— land and property development, urban planning, and landscape architecture—all of which are critical in the creation and delivery of healthy, efficient, resilient, equitable, and accessible places. Each program’s faculty members are composed of nationally and internationally recognized urban planning scholars. Each year, they contribute millions of dollars of funding to support students through a variety of research centers, laboratories, and institutes at the university. The Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning includes 44 full-time faculty members and offers the following six degrees: the Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning, the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (accredited), the Master of Land & Property Development, the Master of Landscape Architecture (accredited), the Master of Urban Planning (accredited), and the Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Sciences. We also offer a number of articulated and dual degrees. This combination of disciplines offers unparalleled opportunities for interdisciplinary research and teaching. The Department has strong ties to the world-renowned Hazard Reduction & Recovery Center, the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, the Center for Housing and Urban Development (including one of four HUD Centers of Excellence in Hispanic Housing Studies), Texas Target Communities (an award-winning outreach and engagement program), the Center for Health Systems & Design, the Center for Heritage Conservation, Texas Sea Grant, Texas A&M Real Estate Center, and other centers and certificate programs in related fields within and beyond the College of Architecture. Support for sponsored research is excellent. The College of Architecture at Texas A&M University is one of the largest of its kind in the United States. Over 130 faculty members in the departments of Architecture, Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning (LAUP), and Construction Science serve over 2,000 students in 15 degree programs. More than 6,000 students come from more than 50 countries other than the U.S. It is a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). Texas A&M is a land, space, and sea grant institution; one of only 24 institutions in the nation to hold this triple designation.
