Title: Terrain Modeler/Builder KBR is seeking a skilled Terrain Modeler/Builder with 8-15 years of experience to join our team and contribute to the development of high-fidelity terrain models for simulation and training purposes. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in creating and optimizing detailed terrain models, with a strong understanding of simulation technologies and a passion for delivering immersive training environments. The candidate will be creating highly realistic and accurate terrain models for simulation and training purposes. This position requires a strong understanding of geographical information systems (GIS), terrain modeling, and military operational environments. This is a full-time on-site position in Quantico, VA. Responsibilities: + Utilize GIS tools and software to generate and optimize terrain databases. Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to accurately represent operational environments, including urban, suburban, rural, and natural landscapes. Ensure terrain models meet performance and fidelity requirements for various simulation platforms for CORRELATION across simulations. Utilize various terrain modeling tools and software to create realistic and detailed landscapes, including elevation, textures, and features. Collaborate with simulation and training teams to understand requirements and integrate terrain models into existing simulation platforms. Perform quality assurance and testing of terrain models to ensure they meet performance and accuracy standards. + Manage and maintain terrain model assets, ensuring they are properly organized and documented for easy integration and future updates. Work with other 3D artists, developers, and technical teams to ensure seamless integration of terrain models into simulation systems. Stay current with industry trends, tools, and techniques related to terrain modeling and simulation. Provide technical support and troubleshooting for terrain-related issues during the development and implementation phases. Basic Qualifications: Clearance & Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Graphics, Game Design, Simulation Engineering, or a related technical field. Experience: 8-15 years of experience in terrain modeling and building for simulation and training applications. Technical Expertise: + Proficiency with terrain modeling software and tools such as Unreal Engine, Unity, 3ds Max, Maya, or similar platforms. + Strong understanding of terrain data formats, geospatial data integration, and optimization techniques. + Experience with texture mapping, elevation data, and procedural terrain generation. + Knowledge of simulation frameworks and standards (e.g., HLA, DIS) and their impact on terrain modeling. + Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards. + Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Preferred Qualifications: + Advanced degrees or relevant certifications are a plus. + Experience with terrain modeling for specific simulation domains such as military, aerospace, or automotive training. + Familiarity with additional software tools and technologies for terrain generation, such as GIS systems or satellite data. + Experience with real-time simulation environments and VR/AR integration. + Background in scripting or programming related to terrain modeling and simulation.
