We are currently seeking highly qualified applicants to work with the US Air Force Test Pilot School, specifically supporting management of Test and Evaluation projects in support of the UASF Test Pilot School curriculum. These projects are executed by the students at USAF TPS under the supervision and mentorship of the instructor staff. This position will primarily support projects being executed by US Space Force students. These students are typically operators and engineers that will go on to conduct Test and Evaluation of future space systems. This 11 month in-residence course is offered two times each year with six month staggered start dates, at dedicated facilities onboard Edwards AFB.
The test project manager will support the Research and Development branch, however the test project manager will be expected to operate with limited supervision to accomplish job tasks. The test project manager will be responsible for coordinating internally and externally to identify and coordinate the planning and support needed for successful project execution. He/she will also provide mentorship to the student project team in conducting the planning, execution, analysis and reporting required for each project.
Specialized knowledge and experience in the areas of test planning, test conduct, and test reporting are needed as well as experience in one or more specialized disciplines such as radar, electro-optics, communications, weapons integration, software development and test or cyber security. Experience with Space Systems is required.
Work location will be Edwards AFB, CA. The test project manager must be available on-site during Test Management Project key meetings and events as determined by the individual test team(s) and Test Foundations Branch. Significant travel is expected in coordinating with external agencies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Test Project Manager will be responsible for:
+ Advise Test Pilot School personnel on managing research, development, test & evaluation of space-domain systems
+ Manage, advise, and/or assist staff and student teams performing test and/or research of space-domain systems. Projects will use local (USAF TPS), USSF test processes, or a combination of the two.
+ Provide instruction to students in classroom, lab, and/or open-air settings, as appropriate for the specific lesson
+ Advise Technical Directors, and other school leadership on space-domain systems and processes
+ Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or scientific discipline with a total of 6 years’ experience in an engineering discipline or as an operator of Space or Aircraft Systems.
+ A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience supporting test of space or air systems as an engineer, analyst, or operator
+ Working knowledge of DoD Test and Evaluation within major acquisition programs
+ Demonstrated experience in the development and application of test measures and test techniques
+ Space related experience
+ Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills and experience/comfort briefing all levels of personnel
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based collaborative resources such as SharePoint and Microsoft Teams
+ Experience with software tools such as MatLab/Simulink or Systems Tool Kit (STK)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Test Pilot School graduates (USAF, USN, Empire, or EPNER) preferred
+ Experience providing professional instruction
