Position Title:Theatre Technical Director Job Group:Professional & Scientific Required Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience Preferred Qualifications:• MFA in technical direction, scenic design or related field • Experience teaching theatre in higher education • Experience in scenic design • Experience in technical direction • Experience supervising workers • Experience collaborating with others to promote a positive and welcoming environment Job Description: Summary We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Theatre Technical Director to join our highly collaborative team of theatre faculty and staff as the Technical Director and Resident Scenic Designer. The Technical Director will supervise the scene shop, teach design and technology courses, and design one to two productions per year. This position provides technical support and instruction for a wide range of theatre production activities including scenery, properties, scenic painting, and technical direction. This position is a 10-month appointment (August through May), and will be hired with the job profile of Teaching Laboratory Specialist III. ISU Theatre produces two to three productions per semester, ranging from devised work, large musicals, contemporary plays, operas, classic works, and more. Example of Duties• Oversees construction and scenic painting for theatre scenery. • Collaborates with directors, designers, and technicians to create fully realized theatre productions.• Serves as scenic designer for 1-2 productions per academic year. • Teaches one design or technical theatre course (i.e., Scenic Design, Scenic Painting, Introduction to Technical Production) per semester. • Leads lab courses and acts as instructor. • Manages theatre scene shop operations, maintenance, and budgetary needs. • Inventories and recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and materials for theatre lab coursework and operations. • Oversees theatrical rigging. • Administers safety protocols.• Instructs, trains, and evaluates student workers.Level Guidelines• Senior-level position possessing high-level professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISU’s mission and department or work unit goals• Applies senior-level professional knowledge and expertise to work requiring greater latitude• Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action• Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems.
