Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

Provides effective clinical assessment of the consumerUtilizes assessment data to support a DSMV substance abuse and mental health diagnosisFormulates appropriate treatment plan along with consumerProvides individual, group, and family therapy, utilizing basic therapeutic models and theories according to consumer needs as stated in the treatment planDemonstrates the ability to recognize the elements of a crisis state and knows how to deescalate or resolve the situationEffectively collaborates with the treatment team members and outside sources in the delivery of clinical servicesEvaluates the consumer for discharge planningAdheres to professional code of ethicsEffectively demonstrates the application of substance abuse specific competenciesProvides HIV/AIDS education, counseling, and testing when necessaryConducts random observed UA’s of same sex consumers

Supervision and Consultation:

Seeks clinical supervision and consultation as neededAccepts and employs suggestions for improvementActively works to enhance clinical skills

Clinical Record Keeping:

Administrative and Other Related Duties as Assigned:

Physical Requirements of the Job: 

There is frequent standing, sitting, and walking which are in bursts of 5 to 10 minutes; however, there are times when this can be extended to monitor consumers (time undetermined).  At times sitting and standing can be extended with the employee having the ability to change positions as permitted by the observance and behavior of the consumer at that time.Walking can be frequent at times and may vary in distance throughout the facility.  Also, employees will have to walk to and from the van, to and from the facility and store, and in the store while taking consumers to the store to buy personal items. There is repetitive forward reaching to hand out lunches to the consumers.  This activity is daily, the frequency will vary according to the census, and a lifting force of up to 3 pounds is needed. Daily, a push force is needed to handle cart when lunches are delivered to facility and to open and/or close doors on van.  Maximum force up to 25 pounds. Fine manipulation and dexterity to handle paperwork in charts, writing, computer keyboarding, data entry, use of a mouse which is frequent in nature.Any other duties that are assigned by supervisor. Qualifications

Master’s degree in a mental health discipline with two years of substance abuse experience plus NAADAC, AADAA, or IC&RC certification or become LGSW, LPC or LCSW required within two years of employment.  LPC, LCSW, or LMFT with two years of substance abuse experience preferred upon hire.  Knowledge of adult specialty, outlined below, to be attained within (6) six months of employment:

 

Knowledge of psychiatric disorders in the adult populationKnowledge of the nature of addiction as a primary illness.Knowledge of gender specific issues relative to addictionKnowledge of Substance Abuse treatment principlesKnowledge of psychiatric rehabilitation principlesKnowledge of twelve-step support groups such as AA, NA, CA, and other self-help groupsUnderstands the dynamics of co-dependency of addicted individuals and other typical behaviors of these consumers, such as denial and manipulationUnderstands the behavioral, psychological, physical health and social effects of psychoactive drugs, including alcohol and tobacco, on the consumer and significant othersKnowledge of helping strategies for reducing the negative effects of substance abuse and dependency and how to tailor strategies and treatment modalities to the consumer’s stage of dependency, change or recoveryKnowledge of medical and pharmaceutical resources in the treatment of addictive disease and other substance related disordersKnowledge of cultural diversityKnowledge of the risk for illnesses among IV drug users such as HIV/AIDS and T.BBasic knowledge of the criminal justice system including court hearings, judges, court referral officers, probation officers if applicableKnowledge of behavioral management, crisis intervention to consumers with substance abuse/addiction issues

Knowledge of opioid substitution therapy and its expected clinical effect (prevent withdrawal symptoms, reduce or eliminate craving and block the effect of any other illicit or self-administered opioids
