Job Summary:

As a trained professional, the Therapist plays a key role in assisting individuals, families, and couples in overcoming various mental health challenges. Therapists provide counseling, psychotherapy, and behavior modification techniques within their professional field and geographical scope. The primary responsibility of this role is to assess, diagnose, and treat clients based on their individual needs, utilizing evidence-based interventions to help clients develop coping strategies, improve relationships, and enhance overall well-being. Required credentials include professional licenses in counseling, social work, and/or marital/family therapy.

Essential Job Functions:

Counseling Services: Provide individual, group, family, and/or other practical counseling services in various settings to meet the needs of clients and achieve treatment goals.

Intake & Assessment: Complete the intake, screening, and/or comprehensive assessment process within designated timeframes, adhering to state and agency standards.

Diagnosis & Treatment Plans: Determine and document a diagnosis based on comprehensive assessments, and develop individualized treatment plans in compliance with regulatory standards.

Clinical Staffing & Collaboration: Participate in clinical staffing and treatment meetings, providing feedback on all pertinent cases and ensuring cohesive care.

Service Goals: Meet department-specific Collaborative Service Goal (CSG) requirements.

Authorization & Service Documentation: Work with internal departments to ensure authorized services are approved and timely information is provided; ensure all services are documented according to agency standards.

File & Chart Maintenance: Ensure all charting deficiencies are corrected in a timely manner.

Transition Assistance: Assist clients through the transition process, providing necessary correspondence such as transition summaries, plans, and letters.

Mandatory Training: Complete all required training, meeting state, regulatory, and agency standards.

Community Representation: Represent the agency in a professional manner within the community.

Professional Relationships: Maintain positive, professional relationships with referral sources, clients, and coworkers, adhering to the Code of Ethics and agency policies.

Crisis Management: Handle crisis situations as they arise and provide rapid intervention during emergencies.

Supervision & Mentoring: Provide professional supervision to individuals in training once all qualifications are met.

Group & Family Therapy: Facilitate group counseling, family therapy, and specialized services such as trauma and co-occurring therapy.

Training & Consultation: Provide clinical consultation and guidance on evidence-based practices to treatment team members.

Company Goals: Demonstrate a genuine interest in achieving both short-term and long-term goals and objectives of the company.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Diagnostic Expertise: In-depth knowledge of diagnostic criteria for individuals with substance use disorders and/or mental health issues.

Caseload Management: Thorough understanding of caseload management, rehabilitation methods, and principles related to mental health and/or substance use disorder treatment.

Treatment Modalities: Familiarity with treatment methods, modalities, and legal requirements related to mental health and substance use disorders.

Supervisory Skills: Knowledge of supervisory and training techniques used in mental health or substance use disorder settings.

Service Coordination: Ability to develop, coordinate, and evaluate services within assigned programs.

Documentation & Reporting: Ability to interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals, and produce clear and concise written reports.

Effective Communication: Capable of communicating clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Relationship Building: Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships via phone, telehealth, and in-person interactions.

Supervision & Direction: Ability to follow direction and accept supervision effectively.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

Required Education: Must possess at least a Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field.

Licensure: Holds licensure with the applicable board of professional registration for the state in which the therapist is practicing, such as Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).

State Licensure: Must be willing to become licensed in additional states as needed.

Telehealth: Must be comfortable providing telehealth services to clients (training will be provided if needed).

Employment Requirements:

Background Check: Successful completion of background checks, including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect, and fingerprint check.

Orientation & Training: Completion of New Hire Orientation and all required training, including Relias courses, at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.

Driver’s License & Transportation: Must have a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, current auto insurance, and reliable transportation.

Certifications: Must obtain First Aid and CPR certifications within three (3) months of employment and maintain them upon renewal.

Behavioral Management Training: Must complete Behavioral Management training within 30 days of employment.

Collaborative Service Goals (CSGs): Demonstrate understanding of Collaborative Service Goals (CSGs) within 30 days of employment.

Training Requirements: Complete a 36-hour training requirement every two years as per 9 CSR 10-7.110 E 1. For ASAM programs, 50 hours of training per year.

School-Based Services: For school-based programs, must be available to provide services during school hours.

Physical Requirements:

ADA Consideration – Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, or pull objects, including the human body. Repetitive movements for typing and writing during work hours.

Physical Activity: Primarily sedentary, involving sitting most of the time, but may require brief periods of walking or standing.
