JOB SUMMARY

The Therapist is responsible for program Mental Health Services, clinical assessment guidelines, clinical assessment guideline review, in-service training and clinical consultation to staff. The range of authority and decision making for this position is limited to and consistent with MHS policy for Mental Health Clinician staff. This position reports to the Program Supervisor. The Mental Health Clinician provides outpatient mental health counseling and case management in designated school settings to identified clients with mental health disorders. The Mental Health Clinician promotes higher levels of wellness, resiliency, stability, and quality of life, assists in the prevention of acute psychiatric episodes, and assists the client to lessen the debilitating effects of mental disorders. The Mental Health Clinician interacts with clients on a day-to-day basis providing individual and group counseling, as well as engaging in therapeutic and psychosocial activities.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops and maintains a caseload and provides a strength-based focus on resilience utilizing brief therapy models, such as solution focused brief therapy, to provide a range of mental health services as required by the needs of the designated student population. Conducts comprehensive mental health assessments, provides crisis intervention, and coordinates the full range of client’s needs.Provides planning, linking, monitoring, evaluation, and follow-up with clients assessed to have mental health issues. Ensures resources and services are accessed in a timely manner, providing community-based services in client’s geographic area as needed. Works with San Diego Unified School District representatives, Program Supervisor, and other community agencies to identify applicable resources.Provides information about the program to community agencies connected to the mental health services system to educate them about the program. Participates in public relation activities as needed.Facilitates case coordination with other providers and helps clients to navigate service systems. Provides a single point of accountability for mental health services.Provides client, family, and staff education on mental health treatment.Completes all charting and documentation as contractually required in compliance with agency, federal, state, and local government standards of all clinical care in timely manner as dictated by program requirements.Maintains contact with school referral sources to continuously appraise client progress. Prepares critical care issues for discussion during supervision and treatment team meetings.Maintains a daily log of client contacts, utilizes approved electronic health record software for service reporting, collects necessary client demographic data and enters it in the database.Complies with all MHS and program rules, policies and procedures including HIPAA standards.Participates in the Injury and Illness Prevention Program.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or other field related to BBS licensure Associate/Licensed Clinical Social Worker, an Associate/Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or another professional licensed by the State of California to provide mental health services in California.Have a minimum of two (2) years full-time experience working with youth ages 6-18.Fluency in English required. Fluency in Spanish preferred.
