THERMOFORMING / EXTRUSION MACHINE OPERATOR
JOB SUMMARY:
Safely sets up and maintains equipment used in the manufacturing of plastic cups and plastic lids. Duties include housekeeping, trouble-shooting issues, making quality products, completing startup, and shut down procedures, change-over of tooling, working in a productive manner and adhering to all safety guidelines. Understanding and aligning business operations through execution of the role while meeting or exceeding customer expectations and aligning with GPI’s business, cultural, financial, and operation objectives.

Various hand tools, power tools, grinders, parts cleaner, grease guns, oil cans, chain hoist, wet/dry vacuum, pallet jacks, box stamper, mops, waste containers, safety knives, labels, labelers, tape dispensers, gauges, scales, micrometer, hand case sealers, tilt table, banding tools, computers, and various software
EDUCATION PREFERRED:
High School Diploma or GED, preferred but not required
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
18 years or older, required Machine operation experience within a manufacturing environment of minimum 1 year, required Previous thermoforming or plastic extrusion experience, highly preferred Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, division, multiplication of whole numbers, fractions, and units of measure. Ability to use rulers, dials, micrometers, and various pieces of measuring equipment accurately within 1/32 or .001 of inch incremental Well-developed communications and interpersonal skills Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision Maintains positive team environment Basic computer literacy and keyboarding skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Ability to work in a fast-pace, multi-task environment Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
DESCRIPTION OF TASKS:
Work within and adhere to GPI’s core values of Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships and Teamwork Adhere to plant and corporate safety policies by always performing duties in a safe and orderly manner; be actively engaged in all safety programs Ensure production and distribution of products are consistent with established food safety, sanitation, and quality standards Maintain 5S in assigned area by keeping work area and equipment clean and orderly Manage workload as necessary to ensure production requirements are met Perform continuous operation of plastic cup and plastic lid machines to ensure efficient production levels Perform regular quality checks to maintain acceptable quality levels and trouble-shoot quality issues quickly as they arise Start and stop machines as required Responsible for doing tooling changeovers Perform proper machine adjustments to ensure standard production levels Repair or replace broken or worn machine parts Inspect raw and processed materials for adherence to specifications; reject defective materials Segregate waste into appropriate containers Properly use and understand PPM’s and TCC’s Complete daily paperwork and computer production reports Direct personnel as appropriate Relieve other Thermoforming Operators and Packers for breaks, lunch periods, or otherwise instructed Ensure shut down and start up requirements are met before and after the completion of the shift Communicate effectively with outgoing/incoming shift concerning any immediate changes or issues in the department. Review department scheduled product runs for the shift and any product changeovers. Once qualified, instruct, train, and mentor new Thermoforming Operators Once qualified, perform Thermoforming Group Leader duties, as necessary and instructed Meet required Key Performance Metrics Fulfill overtime requirements as necessary Fulfill other duties as assigned; assisting in other areas as required by changing business needs
