Background
Axis Communications way of working with innovation houses a bottom-up process. This means that ideas can come from all employees and that it is important to convince colleagues about your idea for it to gain momentum. This way of innovation benefits from people knowing each other and each other’s work. This makes it easier to team up and to make sure that products & services match each other. However, since Axis Communications grows in the number of employees and R&D sites it could easily happen that related bottom-up initiatives are carried out without synchronization. Furthermore, as Axis Communication grows it becomes more difficult to foster overhearing between departments, such as sales, different R&D departments, support and marketing. This thesis explores the possibility for service design to solve parts of these two problems. The thesis will be performed at the Product Concepts & New Ideas group (PCNI) that works with innovation full time. PCNI’s mission is to argue for new products. We don’t create products. Instead, we write the story about something new that could be beneficial for Axis in three to five years’ time.
Goal
The thesis should:
1) Suggest a way that Axis Communications could work with service design to further support bottom-up innovation and to increase the overhearing between departments.
2) Contain an analysis of pros and cons of such a suggestion.
3) Suggest how PCNI could work with service design. Which service design tools would be relevant for PCNI to work with?
