Thesis work is an excellent way to get closer to Scania and build relationships for the future. Many of today's employees began their Scania career with their degree project.
Background:
Many physical phenomena are of a non-linear nature and the mechanical response of materials such as plasticity is not an exception. There are many different approaches one can find in the academic literature on this topic since a few decades back [1] to more modern approaches using for instance machine learning tools, e.g. [2]. Elasto-plastic modelling becomes challenging in industrial-size models when numerical stability plays an important role, especially when including other type of non-linearities such as contacts and geometrical non-linearities and when a suboptimal convergence rate could cost hours if not days of computing time.

Objective:
To implement and/or develop and implement plasticity models accounting for tension-compression asymmetry and evaluate their numerical performance for industrial applications.
Job description:
The purpose of this work is to develop and implement one or several elasto-plastic constitutive models including at least a form of tension-compression asymmetry to be compared in terms of their computational performance as well as their accuracy in well-known computational models where there is a room for improvement.
