Thesis Project 15 hp - Method development of rubber mount

Thesis work is an excellent way to get closer to Scania and build relationships for the future. Many of today's employees began their Scania career with their degree project.

Background
To speed up concept development of rubber mounts and to be less dependent on external suppliers Scania want to investigate to what extent existing simulations tools can be used to quickly find and evaluate relevant and robust concepts.

Objective
The purpose of this thesis work is to evaluate the possibility to use the CAD/simulation programs available for the design engineers to develop robust and realistic rubber mount concepts early in the project development cycle. At the end of the thesis work the goal is to visualize and quantify the limitations of the tools in comparison to more advanced software used by simulation engineers. Results and findings shall be described in a report and presented live and streamed at Scania R&D

Job description
You will model, simulate and evaluate different rubber geometries with focus on their properties such as strain, deformation and stiffness in Catia, SimSolid and equivalent programs available for design engineers. You are to visualize the differences between these programs and compare with results from hand calculations, more advanced simulation tools used by the simulation team or physical measurements. (the latter two will be provided at the start of the thesis due to time limitation). Depending of rubber design there may be data from physical measurements available. You are requested to work at least one day per week at the R&D office in Södertälje, where status and progress as well as getting support on the way forward can be made. Microsoft teams meetings, chats and mail as well as personal meetings are essential for the progress of the thesis.

Education/program/focus
Bachelor in machine design or product development or similar
The thesis work is suitable for one or two students
Start: Earliest start February 2025
Time period: 10weeks
Finish: Latest end June 2025
