We have an immediate need for a Process Designer to join our Thin Film Engineering team. In this role, you will play a key part in providing technical oversight for the deposition of thin film coatings on optical components. The position operates, repairs, maintains the coating tools, shields, and chambers. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with skilled professionals, leverage advanced technologies, and contribute to the success of Raytheon ELCAN. Primary Responsibilities: + Develop and optimize ion-assisted electron beam/thermal evaporation, plasma ion assisted DC magnetron, and PECVD coating processes to deposit complex optical thin film coatings + Operate thin film vacuum coating chambers, automated and manual control for production, as well as, research and development projects + Chamber preparation, loading and unloading of substrates + Cleans and prepares optical components for coating, when necessary + Basic chamber maintenance including troubleshooting of vacuum chambers + Work closely with technicians to resolve technical issues. Manage defect issues, implement root cause solutions to those issues, and continuously promote and implement process improvement, quality and cost performance + Operate Metrology tools for characterization of thin films, including, spectrophotometry, ellipsometry, interferometry, stylus profilometry, four point probe, SEM/TEM, XRF/XRD + Maintain all production, process, quality and equipment records + Promote and maintain good housekeeping and safety practices + Share in the commitment towards a positive workplace culture Qualifications & Experience: + Completion of post-secondary degree in physics, chemistry or an engineering discipline + Minimum 3 years of work experience in with thin film coating –material characterizations + Experience with thin film coating processes for precision optics + MatLab experience would be an advantage. Advanced knowledge of computer systems and software programs MS Office Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. + Knowledge and experience with high reflective metals, UV, visible, infrared (300nm-14m) & multi-spectral coatings; experience with diamond like hard carbon, vapour disposition and sputtering coating technologies. + Experience with spectrophotometry and other thin film coating metrology. + Working knowledge of precision opto-mechanical design; proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications. + Strong leadership skills + Highly effective communications skills + Proven ability to solve technical problems and make sound decisions + Highly motivated with a demonstrated positive attitude + Willingness to learn and acquire knowledge/understanding through study, instruction or experience Raytheon ELCAN offers a competitive compensation package that includes incentive program, benefits, and pension plan.
