**Position Overview:**
SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory¿s Advanced Prototyping and Fabrication Department within the Technology Innovation Directorate is seeking a manufacturing technical planner with experience in machining, brazing/welding, and vacuum processing to fabricate a wide variety of prototype devices, including klystrons and accelerator structures. As a resource to support the manufacturing team of technicians, you will review fabrication requests to evaluate feasibility, develop cost estimates, and schedules. You will manage the workflow by planning and coordinating fabrication processes, including material testing, precision machining, cleaning, plating, welding, brazing, vacuum processing, assembly, and quality verification.
**Given the nature of this position, SLAC will require onsite work.**
**Your specific responsibilities include** :
+ Oversee the fabrication processes through completion with technicians, other SLAC manufacturing facilities, and outside vendors
+ Review the fabrication requirements submitted by engineering and scientific staff and determine if the scope of work is adequately described for successful fabrication.
+ Collaborate with engineering and scientific staff and get clarification where needed.
+ Develop the manufacturing plan, cost, and schedule estimates to support scientific and engineering projects.
+ Communicate any changes to cost and schedule to the customer real-time.
+ Specify equipment repairs and upgrades with technicians and outside vendors
+ Ensure all work practices/equipment/training comply with SLAC and CAL-OSHA requirements.
+ Develop procedures and draft work planning and control documents to successfully complete manufacturing work per SLAC requirements
**To be successful in this position you will bring** :
+ Associate¿s degree in a relevant field and 5 years of work experience in manufacturing.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing practices including brazing, welding, machining, and vacuum processing.
+ Familiarity working with CAD applications (Solid Edge and Teamcenter Experience preferred).
+ Ability to read ANSI standard mechanical drawings of piece-parts and fabrication assembly drawings, and plan fabrication workflow.
+ Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of staff, including engineers, scientists, technicians, and fabrication staff.
+ Experience coordinating R&D engineering projects.

**Physical requirements** :
+ Frequently grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
+ Occasionally stand/walk, sit, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp forcefully, use a telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts.
+ Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), reach/work above shoulders, operate foot and/or hand controls, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.

_The expected pay range for this position is $109,982 to $136,085 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs._
