Job Family Definition:

Customer Solution Centers are made up of teams that provide remote (offsite) service; customer access, pre-sales, post-sales, and service delivery. Technical teams focus is to solve various business systems and applications problems for customers, onsite engineering personnel and Authorized Service Providers on standard, specialized or complex systems.

Management Level Definition:

Applies advanced subject matter knowledge to solve complex business issues and is regarded as a subject matter expert. Frequently contributes to the development of new ideas and methods. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors. Leads and/or provides expertise to functional project teams and may participate in cross-functional initiatives. Acts as an expert providing direction and guidance to process improvements and establishing policies. Frequently represents the organization to external customers/clients. Exercises significant independent judgment to determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives. May provide mentoring and guidance to lower level employees.

What you’ll do:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced SUSE Rancher Expert to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing, managing, and optimizing our container orchestration and Kubernetes infrastructure using Rancher, a leading platform for managing Kubernetes clusters. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that our infrastructure is highly available, scalable, and secure, while ensuring best practices are followed for containerized applications.

As a SUSE Rancher Expert, you will lead the design and implementation of Rancher-based solutions, work on performance optimization, troubleshoot complex issues, and contribute to automating deployment pipelines.

 

Rancher Management & Administration:

o   Design, deploy, and maintain Rancher to manage Kubernetes clusters.

o   Configure and manage multi-cluster environments, ensuring high availability and efficient resource utilization.

o   Automate the deployment of Kubernetes clusters and associated resources using Rancher.

o   Ensure integration of Rancher with existing CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and logging systems.

Kubernetes Cluster Management:

o   Oversee Kubernetes cluster lifecycle management, including creation, scaling, upgrades, and decommissioning.

o   Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Kubernetes clusters, networking, storage, and workloads.

o   Implement and manage best practices for security, network policies, storage, and RBAC within the Rancher/Kubernetes ecosystem.

Collaboration & Leadership:

o   Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, and security teams to align infrastructure with application requirements.

o   Mentor and guide other team members on Rancher and Kubernetes best practices.

o   Help establish and maintain governance policies for Kubernetes environments in Rancher.

Optimization & Troubleshooting:

o   Continuously optimize the Rancher and Kubernetes environment for performance, cost efficiency, and scalability.

o   Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, failures, and issues in the cluster environment.

o   Implement monitoring and alerting strategies to ensure the availability and health of all systems.

Security & Compliance:

o   Ensure the security of the Kubernetes environment and Rancher platform by implementing robust security controls (e.g., network policies, role-based access control, image scanning).

o   Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and security threats affecting Kubernetes environments.

Documentation & Training:

o   Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for infrastructure, configurations, and operational procedures.

o   Provide training to internal teams on Kubernetes and Rancher usage, administration, and troubleshooting.

 

What you need to bring:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or equivalent experience).

Experience:

o   5+ years of experience working with Kubernetes, with at least 3 years of hands-on experience with SUSE Rancher.

o   Strong expertise in deploying, configuring, and managing Kubernetes clusters (with Rancher as the management layer).

o   Proficiency with containerization tools such as Docker.

o   In-depth knowledge of container orchestration and microservices architecture.

Technical Skills:

o   Advanced knowledge of Kubernetes, Helm, and Rancher.

o   Strong understanding of cloud-native technologies and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).

o   Experience with CI/CD tools and frameworks (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab, CircleCI).

o   Proficient in scripting and automation (Bash, Python, etc.).

o   Knowledge of container security practices and tools (e.g., Aqua, Twistlock, Clair).

o   Experience with logging and monitoring systems (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack).

Soft Skills:

o   Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

o   Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with experience working in cross-functional teams.

o   Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment and manage multiple priorities.
