JOB SUMMARY
The position of Welder will apply their knowledge and skills in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) including fitting, welding, and brazing for the repair and modification of turbine engine components, primarily used in the aerospace industry. Materials include, but are not limited to, stainless steels, titanium, aluminum and nickel alloys such as hastaloy and inconel.
Participation in a continuous and proven on-the-job training program (OJT) and adherence to the American Welding Society (AWS D17.1 -aerospace endorsement) structured certification program is expected.
This position will work alongside experienced welders that allows continuous interaction of techniques, skill knowledge, and print reading and interpretation. You will become familiar with various types of welding, equipment, learn about safety and quality standards, and develop your welding technique all under the supervision of a professional team of welders. As your skills increase, so will your responsibilities, giving you hands-on experience, growth, and additional responsibilities.
This position operates from a climate controlled and modern welding department area.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Follow written and verbal instructions accurately. Clearly understand all instructions prior to proceeding with work. Be able to read and interpret various documents, work instructions and drawings.
2. Successfully complete all requirements of AWS D17.1 -aerospace endorsement certification and the OJT requirements of the company and the weld department.
3. Perform welding, weld prep and weld finishing operations (primary TIG application) under the direction and observation of a skilled welder or trainer initially. When proficiency is demonstrated (via various testing methods) perform the aforementioned tasks independently.
4. Inspect work for completion and quality. Understand and achieve weld quality requirements.
5. The welder may perform in the following disciplines:
a. Perform Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG welding) or parts.
b. Perform Torch Brazing of tubes and connectors.
c. Perform Automated TIG Welding.
d. Use pneumatic hand grinders, and other powered bench tools to grind metal to prepare parts for welding or to finish after welding.
e. Use weld fixtures, chill blocks, gas back-ups, pre-heat methods, and other methods and equipment.
f. Perform local heat treat and local stress relief of weld repair areas.
g. Assemble and fit parts such as flanges to cases, cut and fit patches, or assemble tubes and fittings.
h. Perform non-certified welding for shop maintenance, building installation, or for tooling and fixturing.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Technical high school, or equivalent trade school completion in a weld curriculum.
2. Successful completion of skill specific TIG welding courses from an approved technical or welding school and/or a minimum of two years’ TIG specific welding experience.
3. Previous certification credentials in an AWS welding classification, with AWS D17.1 preference.
4. The ability to interpret and follow written and verbal instructions accurately, including reading and interpretation of technical drawings.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
1. Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
2. Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
3. Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical operations, including working with decimals, fractions, and basic geometry.
4. Previous experience or familiarity with measuring gages such as calipers and micrometers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to pass a vision test and fitness-for-duty test.
Follow general shop safety procedures including the occasional use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.

Work in varying positions from time to time. Stand and/or sit for portions of the shift. Move parts (>50 pounds) using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods. Move less heavy parts (<50 pounds) with or without hoists, slings, or carts.
Occasionally use powered and hand-held tools.
