Where You Will Work   

Tyrone is an open-pit copper mining complex located in Grant County, New Mexico – just 10 miles south of the historic mining community of Silver City. The copper processing facilities currently consist of a solvent extraction/electrowinning operation with an annual maximum capacity of approximately 100 million pounds of copper.

Description

Skilled employee who works under limited supervision to safely provide tire maintenance activities and other mine support activities.

Performs troubleshooting and diagnostic assessment for the replacement and repair of different types of tires. This includes servicing tires, diagnosing tire and wheel issues, patches, plugs, stems, and making tire replacement decisions. Tire and wheel failure analysis: perform replace, fixes and repairs on different types of tires. This includes servicing tires, diagnosing tire and wheel issues, patches, plugs, stems, and tire replacement. Work autonomously under some supervision to perform preventative maintenance, which includes knowledge or tire treads, wear, temperature, monitoring heat bubbles and overall condition of the tire.   May operate mobile equipment such as: forklifts, cranes, tire handlers, and front-end loaders Perform in-field tire replacement on all rubberized equipment (Knowledge of Hot Tire safety procedures).  Train other employees to safely complete tire repairs. Perform other duties as required.

 

Minimum Requirements:

Two (2) years’ experience in tire repair or mechanical repair and maintenance or a combination of education and experience in industrial repair and maintenance.  Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge, as well as safety Ability to read and use schematics Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety- related instructions and procedures in English.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED Previous Mining experience Established tire manufacturer training certifications Large Off-Road Tire Repair experience Knowledge of hot tire safety procedures 

 

Criteria/Conditions:

Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required. This is a Safety sensitive role Will be required to work rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 operation While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear, see and work in confined space Will be required to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the workday Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol-free work environment using mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as allowed by applicable state laws Qualifications

What We Offer You 

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $27.00 - $37.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
