The Tissue Core TCC Acquisition Team Lead assists the leadership and guidance of coordinators who support all areas of the research division's Tissue Core TCC Intake and Acquisition section. The section ensures that each area of service is working as a team to deliver high quality tissue procurement and data annotation in accordance with institutional guidelines and federal and state regulatory agencies. It facilitates and leads complex collection and processing workflows across multiple campuses, including the expansion of hospitals.
Position Highlights:
Laboratory Team Lead: Assists the laboratory supervisor in providing guidance and mentoring to Tissue Core TCC Intake and Acquisition staff. Provides primary training to staff on any new, or existing process essential for lab function. Specimen Collection & Shipment Handling: responsible for SOPS, guidelines and policies as well as technique on specimen screening, collection, management, documentation, retrieval, and dissemination. Project Management: serve as a resource to faculty and staff requesting services by providing guidance and oversite of projects initiated in the department.
The Ideal Candidate:
1-year prior experience leading projects in a Core related (multi-user shared facility). Experience working in a clinical research lab; knowledge of GCP/GCLP; knowledge of Human Subject regulations; experience working in a repository. 1-2 years management/supervisory experience is desired. Experience in a multi-user shared facility would be highly preferred. Prefer successful completion of the following coursework: Microbiology and associated labs Anatomy and Physiology and associated labs, Cell Biology, Genetics/Molecular Biology and associated labs and/or Life Sciences Information Technology.
Responsibilities:
Along with leading the Coordinators, it performs shipping, receiving, and preparation of human biospecimens Primary trainer of new Coordinators which includes conducting College of American Pathologist (CAP) annual competency assessments with assigned staff Backup to the Supervisor for new protocol/pilot registrations Backup to the Supervisor for staff workload scheduling and training Primary contact for lab collection queries Ensures all specimens are documented accordingly and accurately by Tissue Core TCC I&A staff while maintaining set quality metrics Ensures an accurate inventory of supplies and materials to provide services in a timely fashion. Ensures compliance of all specimen related policies and regulations. Day-to-Day Operations and Triage of Workload
Credentials and Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in a science related degree, including but not limited to Biomedical Science, Microbiology, Public Health, Molecular Biology or related field is required and 3 years’ experience specific to a core facility. Is familiar with general biomedical laboratory techniques and observes Biospecimen best practices for those involved with working with human biospecimens. IATA Certification, obtainable within first year of hire. Knowledge of terminology, principles and techniques used in biological research, analysis and testing. Must have the ability to work well under pressure of meeting mandatory deadlines. Must have excellent organizational skills and careful attention to detail. Must have the ability to plan, organize and coordinate multiple work assignments and lead teams towards common goals. Need to have the ability to read, write, interpret and apply instructions to assigned activities.
