Purpose
The Business Manager for Internal Controls ensures the success of US Internal Controls by ensuring that Internal Controls is operating effectively and efficiently aligning to business strategies, which includes complying with regulations, policies, and procedures.
This position adds value by providing expertise in ensuring effective governance, procedures, and processes within the Internal Controls department. It involves leading and influencing discussions within Scotiabank and with external stakeholders, including industry forums and regulatory bodies.
What You’ll Do
Internal Controls Effectiveness and Efficiency:
Improve processes within Internal Controls to ensure that they are both efficient and effective to meet internal and external requirements Coordinate and complete ad-hoc requests related to Internal Controls from internal and external stakeholders. Manage certain activities such as employee onboarding/offboarding, including seating plans, equipment needs, and shared folder access, business continuity plans (BCP). Collaborate with Finance on reporting and expense management. Drive cross-functional initiatives within Internal Controls independently.
Regulatory and Controls:
Enhance control for optimal effectiveness and efficiency by ensuring adherence to governance frameworks, policies, and regulations Ensure clarity and accuracy in regulatory responses within Internal Controls. Ensure that activities for Internal Controls are aligned with the Bank’s risk appetite and culture.
Leadership & Management:
Lead and manage reporting and governance within the Internal Controls team. Identify and implement continuous process improvements within the Internal Controls team. Coordinate accurate and complete policies and procedures for internal controls. Prepare and present regular internal control status reports to senior management. Develop and deliver training programs to promote awareness across Internal Controls.
Consider the Bank’s risk appetite and culture in daily activities and decisions.
Maintain effective controls to meet operational, compliance, and conduct risk obligations.
