Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of the Media Search Team by ensuring specific individual goals and objectives are executed and delivered in support of the Bank’s risk management strategies by adjudicating negative news alerts. Ensures all activities conducted are complying with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
• Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in their day-to-day activities and decisions.
• Operates within the Bank’s risk appetite and conducts business and interactions with customers, employees, and others in a legal and ethical manner that promotes integrity across the Bank.
• Supports the Bank’s risk management strategies by performing adjudication on AML/ATF related media searches on behalf of GlobalBanking & Markets and/or Canadian Banking
• Executes necessary media search activities in line with internal processes and procedures.
• Adjudicates materiality of negative news articles and determines if relevant named parties are a match to Scotiabank customers orassociated parties.
• Escalates customer matches with material negative news to the appropriate units for action.
• Completes their assigned activities within established timelines and consistently meets performance objectives
• Communicates effectively with management and when required, stakeholders.
• Escalates complex matters to the Manager/Senior Manager/Director, when applicable.
• Records information in an accurate and comprehensive manner into the case management system
• Raises issues or unexpected spikes in volumes to the Manager/Senior Manager/Director in a timely manner.
• Ensures evidence and supporting documentation is saved in the case management system in accordance with internal procedures.
• Identifies opportunities for process improvements and contributes to the execution of process changes, when required.
• Fosters a positive work environment that values teamwork and provides a productive and inclusive experience for all staff, and the ability to
deliver results under tight deadlines and multiple priorities.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:
• Post-secondary education is required with a preferred minimum of 1-3 years of banking and/or operations experience.
• Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist, Certified Financial Crime Specialist, or equivalent designation is an asset.
• Basic knowledge of local and major international AML/ATF regulations and regulatory reporting framework.
• Demonstrated experience of understanding risk and applying critical thinking with solid organization and time management skills.
• Demonstrated experience of leveraging analytical skills to make rational and logical interpretations.
• Demonstrated experience of gathering, and documenting information in a succinct and organized manner.
