TITLE 32 SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (MATES)
Summary THIS IS AN ARMY NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a TITLE 32 SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (MATES), Position Description Number D1297000 and is part of the MI MATES, Michigan Army National Guard. Responsibilities ***THIS IS A TITLE 32 NATIONAL GUARD POSITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP*** This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters - State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility. The purpose of this position is to provide overall direction and coordination of subordinate work activities and functions. Participates with management officials in the planning and establishment of long-range work requirements and schedules. Serves as the highest-level subject matter expert in the organization for work accomplished. Work activities and functions are typically controlled through two or more levels of supervision. The occupation and non-supervisory grade level which best reflects the nature of the overall work operations supervised is Surface Maintenance Mechanic, WG-5801-11. 1. Plans overall allocation of personnel and resources for the organization. Ensures accomplishment of work operations which because of their scope, volume, and complexity are planned on a year or longer basis. 2. Explains work requirements to subordinate supervisors, sets deadlines and sequence of operations. Coordinates and directs the work of units supervised. 3. Recommends promotion or reassignment of subordinate supervisors and reviews personnel actions prepared by supervisors. Makes formal appraisal of supervisors' work performance and reviews employee appraisals submitted by them. 4. Develops, publishes, and ensures employee compliance with standing operating procedures for the activity supervised. Implements and complies with agency, state, and Federal regulatory Occupational Safety and Health, and environmental requirements. 5. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural firefighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or to serve as a team member on boards to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. Military Grades: CPT - LTC SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Months Required: Experience or training leading to an extensive knowledge of the mechanical makeup, operation, and working relationships of complex interconnecting systems, assemblies, and parts for a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment. Ability to diagnose, repair, overhaul, and modify interconnected complex systems on a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment. Extensive knowledge of state of the art electrical, electronic, complex hydraulic, pneumatic, and other major non-mechanical systems that have a functional relationship and effect on the operation of major mechanical systems. Extensive knowledge of hydraulic lifting, loading, turning, and positioning systems and their mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic controls. Skill and knowledge to develop or improvise methods, alter parts, and make repairs in the absence of technical guidelines (such as modifying parts to fit and mesh into systems for which the parts were not designed): improvise modifications to equipment to correct recurring malfunctions; and design modifications to meet special test requirements or other special needs. Experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations. Education No substitution of education allowed for this position.
