Banner University Medical Center - South Campus, houses the only Level 1 Academic Medical Center in Tucson meeting the needs of the SMI population. The Behavioral Health Pavilion is also the largest inpatient psychiatric service in Southern Arizona.  Our team provides patients a safe, supportive environment that fosters healing and facilitates a return to the highest possible level of independence.  Other services include crisis stabilization, psychiatric assessments, 24-hours psychiatric & nursing care, expressive arts therapy, group therapy, family support therapy, medication management and a separate behavioral health unit within the Emergency Department. You can become an integral member of our patient's team, along with psychiatric doctors, NPs, pharmacists, Registered Nurses and security officers.

As a Title 36 Liasion, you will be working with our SMI patients on a locked unit. Someone with experience in the T-36 process would be the ideal candidate.

This is a Full Time Day Shift Salary Position.

This is a Monday-Friday schedule. Hours vary depending on the need of the unit and census. For example: 7:00am-3:30pm or 8:00am-4:30pm.

*This position could sometimes start as early as 6:00am but will never work later than 5:00pm.

Banner - University Medical Center South is a comprehensive academic medical center that includes an Emergency department, a state-designated trauma center and a Behavioral Health Pavilion. We are an Arizona Department of Health Services-accredited Cardiac Receiving Center and a Nurses Improving Care for Health system Elders-designated senior-friendly hospital. The hospital is staffed by physicians who are full-time faculty of the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson and is managed by Banner Health under an operating agreement with Pima County. Our specialty services include inpatient and outpatient behavioral health, treatment and education for diabetes, innovative geriatrics care and comprehensive orthopedics.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position serves as the primary point of contact for the involuntary commitment process per Arizona Revised Statutes, Title 36. Must have advanced knowledge of Title 36 Revised Statutes and able to work in highly complex system. This position is responsible for the daily submission of mental health legal documents to the County Attorney’s Office, CPSA, and the Superior Court.

CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Prepares, completes and submits required legal documents to the county attorney in the time frame determined by the county attorney’s office and in accordance with Arizona Revised Statutes, Title 36.

2. Reviews legal paperwork for accuracy, completeness and validity; ensures all timeframes and timelines are met per ARS, Title 36.

3. Completes and distributes daily census information, including assignment of court evaluators.

4. Transports patients to mental health hearings, disseminates court disposition and maintains mental health hearing calendar.

5. Communicates changes in patient’s legal status with other hospital departments and CPSA.

6. Collaborates and coordinates Title 36 related issues with hospital staff, County Attorney’s Office, CPSA, and the Superior Court.

7. Maintains and compiles data for monthly reports; submits reports monthly and as requested.

8. Obtains Notary and notarizes paperwork as required.

9. Works independently to provide excellent patient care. Internal customers include patients, staff, and physicians. External customers may include patient family, legal agencies and other community resources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Public Administration, Public Health, or related field. Alternatively, an Associate’s degree in Paralegal may be considered.

Requires one year behavioral health experience and ability to obtain Notary Public status. Requires knowledge of Arizona Revised Statutes, Title 36 involuntary commitment process; knowledge of medical, psychiatric, and legal terminology; understanding of legal procedures as well as strong interpersonal and professional verbal and written communication skills; strong computer skills. Requires ability to prioritize multiple tasks based on timeframes and time limits; ability to effectively incorporate technology in day-to-day tasks and aptitude for accuracy with attention to detail.

Employees working at BUMG, BUMCT, or BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting that serves children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
