Full job description
Plans the setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, and machine tool feeds and speeds.
Heat-treats and welds parts as required.
Determines specifications for inspection of work, using precision measuring and gauging tools, performing required inspection before, during, and after machining or production.
Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Sets up, runs, and tests dies to produce a product to specifications, tracing die difficulties to their source and correcting same.
Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
Studies blueprints of die and product die models, templates, and prototype parts and visualize shape, mechanical structure, and operation of die.
Computes dimensions, plans machining, layout, and assembly operations.
Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining.
Uses a crane to lift machined parts and positions them for assembly on worktable or surface plate.
Smooths flat and contoured surfaces and fits die parts to each other.
Verifies dimensions, clearances, and alignment of parts in die.
Dowels and bolts die parts together.
Works to tolerances as close as zero.
Dismantles die and repairs or replaces parts. Uses hand tools of the trade.
May assist in punch press overhaul.
Reads and interprets blueprints or works from verbal or written instructions or from the part to be copied or fitted.

**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
Experience in all die making disciplines including mathematics, machine tool application, and heat treating applications preferred
High school graduate or equivalent required
Vocational certificate desirable Minimum of 3 years’ industrial tool & die experience required
Knowledge of progressive die design & manufacturing for close tolerance and high strength materials applications preferred
Must be able to fit and assemble jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies
Ability to trace die difficulties to their source and correct is necessary
Must be able to set up, run, and test dies to produce a product to specifications

**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
