**Job Title: Tool and Die Maker** **Job Description** The Tool and Die Maker will plan, construct, alter, and repair a wide variety of tools, jigs, prototypes, special parts, and fixtures. This role involves complex machine operations using a wide range of manual and CNC machine tools. The Tool and Die Maker will work from prints, sketches, computer-aided manufacturing software, machine manuals, machinist manuals, and instructions. **Responsibilities** + Plan and layout job assignments, determine sequence of machining operations, and program operations as necessary. + Calculate shrinkage and expansion allowances. + Perform machine operations requiring unusual and difficult setups and methods to maintain very close tolerances and fits, including heat treating, drawing, tempering, and bench work involving filing, scraping, grinding, lapping, fitting, indexing, timing, assembly, and adjusting to ensure satisfactory operation. + Perform tool troubleshooting duties as assigned. + Conduct tool tryouts, diagnose and correct problems, and make recommendations on tool modifications and methods. + Set up, program, and operate EDM equipment and a variety of complex CNC machine tools. + Report design errors, mark up changes on drawings, and refer to the Engineering Department. + Assist in training and instructing lower-graded tool makers. + Collaborate with the Engineering Department and production employees to work out tooling and prototype refinements. + Develop engineering models from sketches, instructions, and piece part drawings, including making design modifications. + Use a variety of manual and CNC machine tools, precision measuring tools and instruments, video microscopes, optical comparators, heat treating furnaces, and hand tools. + Follow safety rules and maintain a clean and orderly work area. + Perform other related duties as assigned. **Essential Skills** + Experience with manual machining (4+ years). + High school diploma or equivalent. + Proficiency with manual milling, including facing, boring, drilling, and tapping. + Proficiency with manual lathes, including turning, boring, and single point threading. + Experience using measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and optical comparators. + Skilled at blueprint reading, basic trigonometry, and other basic math skills. **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Experience with tool and die making. + Experience in die repair and maintenance. + Experience with surface grinding and manual lathe operations. + Knowledge of progressive dies and stamping presses. + Ability to read and interpret blueprints. **Why Work Here?** Enjoy a large, well-equipped facility with a cafe right next to the shop.
