ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, which are to be performed accurately, efficiently, within company safety and quality standards, and within required time frames as needed.  Other duties may be assigned.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.

Produce parts for small production quantities; produce part samples for experimental or prototype unitsVerify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicatorsStudy blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assembliesSet up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishesVisualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies, based on specificationsInspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defectsFit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand toolsConduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications, making adjustments as necessarySelect metals to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness and heat toleranceFile, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them togetherLift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle platesFollow safety regulations; keep work areas and equipment clean and orderly using 5S standardsMay perform other duties as assigned and extend into other areas as neededFlexibility to work overtime as requiredPerform tasks in a timely and accurate manner

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Ability to operate precision equipment to a high degree of accuracy Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationshipsAbility to work effectively in independent situations and exercise good judgment to reach sound conclusionsAbility to use Kanban workflow for optimal build performanceAbility to follow written and verbal instructions, schedules, rules, procedures, etc.Ability to read, interpret, and perform from various documents, including method sheets, assembly drawings, production reports, safety rules, printed shop schedules, KanBan cards/boards, operating maintenance instruction and procedure manuals, blueprints, specifications, technical drawings, etc.Ability to properly identify components and gain extensive parts knowledgeAdvanced math skills combined with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, databases, and formulasKnowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and modelsAbility to judge distances, spatial relationships, and perform visual and/or mechanical inspections; ability to distinguish colors and finishesMust be able to set up and run equipment for milling, contour milling, boring, hole locating, drilling, turning, threading, grinding, etc. to extremely close tolerancesAbility to perform jobs at the same or lower labor grade than current job

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to demonstrate manual dexterity; repetitively use fingers and hands to feel, handle, or squeeze; reach with hands and arms; twist/turn body; perform repetitive motionsAbility to stand, walk, and/or sit, frequently and for extended periods of timeAbility to occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawlAbility to frequently lift up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift up to 60 pounds, and rarely lift over 60 pounds.  Any lifts over 35 pounds should be done with assistance.

MECHANICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to operate all conventional tool room machines, including mills, lathes, grinders, band saws, etc.Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenanceAbility to use hand or power toolsAbility to use two hand palm buttonsAbility to use pneumatic toolsAbility to use testing equipmentAbility to use a variety of screw drivers and clamps, as well as operate a variety of machines

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Exposure to various chemicals including greases, oils, adhesives, and solder and welding fumes, in safe exposure amounts and approved for use in our facility by EHSExposure to temperature changesExposure to moderate noise levels with intermittent loud noisesExposure to vibrationExposure to dirt and/or dustExposure to sharp objects and partsExposure to moving mechanical parts, protected by approved guarding and controls

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum requirements:High school diploma or GEDFive years of related experience in a Tool Room positionMust be proficient with lathes and millsMust be able to read complex blueprints, determine material needed, and produce a quality part from blueprintsMust be proficient with Prototrak or similar CNC softwareMust be able to create programs using Prototrak or similar softwareKnowledgeable with surface grindersAbility to reverse engineer and create complex partsJourneyman Certificate in Tool and Die PreferredWe Celebrate Who We Are!
