This position will manage the ongoing maintenance, development, and optimization of injection molding tooling to ensure optimal asset utilization for and support activities to ensure sustained, optimal tool performance and Plan, direct and coordinate Tool Room activities and staff.

Responsibilities

Equipment Health:
-Develop preventative maintenance programs.
-Oversee conversions, repairs, preventive maintenance and inspection of tooling.
-Set priorities for mold repairs working with alongside with Scheduling.
-Direct, review, and approve tool design changes in order to improve current and future mold design and achieve quality part and optimum cycles.Maintain and regain cavitation in order to meet monthly objectives; Develop and maintain project budgets.
-Evaluate downtime and efficiency reports.

 

People:
-Supervise employees and activities in Tool Room to support 24/7 production facility.
-Plans and maintains maintenance schedules.
-Provides technical advice and training to production and maintenance personnel.
-Conduct new hire training and continuous training to improve efficiencies

 

CAPEX & Budget Control:
-Participates in recommending purchase of new capital equipment, plant layout, production methods, material handling, and parts inventory. Assist in part inventory ordering.
-Adhere to maintenance spend budget.
-Issue request for capital expense for continued plant product and tool maintenance.
-Manage expenses for Tool shop and make recommendations for capital needs.
-Review of new mold development, tooling vendor selection, and negotiate tooling cost.

 

Support to other departments:
-Assists Tool Room in making necessary adjustments to maintain product quality.
-Evaluate downtime and efficiency reports.
-Establish good working relationships and display strong business aptitude to support plant production and performance goals.

 

Keep Tool shop personnel informed of pertinent activities and information.
Work with vendors on development of injection tools, fixtures, and molds.
Manage cost, evaluate suppliers, and meet deadlines.
Review new mold construction and design changes to existing tooling.
Drive standardization in tooling design.
Apply lean manufacturing tools such as 5S and SMED in Tool Room.

 

Supports and maintains all policies of the company including but not limited to ISO Standards, Health and Safety Requirements, Continuous Improvement as well as standard work procedures.
Determines the approval for new controlled documents or change of existing documents.
Coordinates with ISO standards for preventative machine maintenance and complies with documented procedures.

Qualifications  High school diploma/GED equivalent.Preference given to candidates with advanced degrees or certificatesPrior experience in mold making, industrial tool maintenance, or injection molding.Ability to read technical drawings and prints.Must have good communications skills, written and verbal.Must know how to use basic measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.Previous experience with lathes, mills, grinders, etc. is not essential, but preferred.Knowledge of injection mold components, terminology, and their relationships to each other.
