Education:

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred

Basic Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years of related experience.   Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Tooling Specialist III in our Torrance, California location. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California.  We hold the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems, and we’re the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found nose to tail on aircraft and aerospace engines. Our products are also critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment.

General Summary:

Build, modify or repair machine tooling for various manufactures’ components to produce fasteners in accordance with work order specifications. 

Specific Responsibilities:

Designs and makes machine and/or tooling component parts. Assembles, operates, and tests special machines/tooling. Operates all types of metal fabricating machine tools, sheet metal tools, hand and power equipment and precision measuring devices. Monitors and checks own work to ensure it meets specifications. Plans operation, makes tools required and performs various machining operations by reading blueprints, engineering sketches and/or by general verbal instruction.  Gets proper material for job from raw material racks and cuts material. Set-up for machining and assembly operations of tools; and may make partial or complete model of part.  Performs machining operation to make various tooling. Works with high-speed, tool and carbon steels, carbide and other materials. Set-up and operate any and all Tool Room machines, including lathes, mills, shaper, grinders and drill press. Performs dimensional inspection by using micrometers, indicators, calipers and comparators. May machine repair parts and assist in machine repair. May perform miscellaneous tasks such as silver soldering, hard brazing, bonding and arc or gas welding. Takes parts to heat treat if required and fills out heat treat order to reflect requirements. Finish grind by using surface, ID/OD or jig grinder after heat treat if required. Cleans machine by wiping and/or using solvent or machine cleaner.
