The role
As a Type Rating Examiner (TRE), you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This role plays a vital part in supporting the UK’s emergency services by ensuring the highest standards of training for Air Ambulance and Police helicopter pilots. By delivering expert instruction on H145 and EC135 helicopters, you’ll directly contribute to saving lives and protecting communities, enhancing the nation’s ability to respond to critical situations with efficiency and reliability.
Day-to-day, you’ll deliver high-quality helicopter training, ensuring students meet the required standards for Type and Instrument Ratings. You’ll work closely with both internal teams and external clients, adapting to a flexible schedule to support operational needs.
This role is a 50% full time role, one week on / one week off. 38 hours per week and is based at Gloucestershire Airport.
Essential Experience for a TRE:
Qualifications:
Hold a UK ATPL(H) or CPL(H) + IR
Hold a current TRE(H)
Hold a current Class 1 medical
UK Driving License, Passport, Right to Work in the UK
Experience: (must meet at least one of the following)
1,000 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC) of aircraft, including 500 hours as PIC on twin-turbine helicopters, or
1,000 hours as co-pilot in HEMS/Police operations, including 500 hours as PIC under supervision and 100 hours as PIC on twin-turbine helicopters.
Essential Additional Requirements:
2,000 hours of total helicopter experience.
500 hours operating experience in twin-turbine helicopters in a similar operational environment.
20 hours of VFR at night as Pilot in Command.
You will also ideally:
Be qualified and instrument rated on both the EC135 and H145
Be qualified as a TRE(H) on both the EC135 and H145
Hold a current IRI
Have previous NVIS experience.
Have experience of HEMS operations.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain DBS security clearance for this role.
