POSITION SUMMARY: 
Under general supervision, the Tractor Operator operates a diesel or gasoline powered tractor and associated equipment to perform grounds maintenance operations including cutting grass in landscaped and non-landscaped areas of commercial and public grounds.  This job class requires practical skill and knowledge of grounds keeping practices, equipment, and using safe work practices.

 

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:
1. *Operates a tractor to move materials, draw implements, tow trailers, and pull objects embedded in ground;
2. *Pull cable of winch to raise, lower, or load heavy material or equipment;
3. *Fasten attachments such as graders, plows, rollers, mowers, backhoes, seeders or disc harrows to tractor;
4. *Monitors and reviews equipment, structures, materials, events, and environment to detect and assess problems.  Identifies the cause and evaluates options for the best solution;
5. *Adheres to procedures, regulations and guidelines while minimizing errors and safety risks;
6. *May lubricate and make minor repairs to tractor and attachments;
7. *Inspects tractors and equipment per company requirements to ensure proper operation and safe condition;
8. *Where required, also performs grounds maintenance laborer duties;
9. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• One or more years of experience in operating tractors or similar heavy equipment;
• Ability to follow verbal and written directions and instructions;
• Ability to follow established safety rules applicable to tractor operators, to maintain a safe environment, and to adapt and respond to potentially hazardous conditions and use the appropriate PPE;
• Flexibility to adapt to changing work priorities, and to build effective working relationships with coworkers and customers;
• Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving and common sense skills;

CERTIFICATES OR LICENSES REQUIRED:

The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements:

 

Valid Driver's License

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following
physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:

 

• Maneuvering over uneven ground
• Maneuvering in, around, and on equipment
• Climbing and working from high platforms
• Reaching, pushing, and pulling gears to operate levers, and steering wheel
• Bending, stooping, and reaching
• Lifting or moving tools, equipment and/or materials up to 50 pounds

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed at a customer’s location on job sites in a construction environment with various tools, and mechanical, electrical and construction equipment.  Transporting to work locations within the site.  At times, may be required to work in confined spaces. Employees may be exposed to hazardous equipment, toxic substances, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat.  Travel between facilities and work locations may be required.
