Trade Compliance - Export Compliance Manager/Export Control Officer - Chicago, IL - Hybrid

Job Description:

The incumbent is expected to be the primary interface between Government Agencies, Mars Stakeholders, Commercial, Ethics and Compliance, Legal, and Mars Trade Compliance for Export Compliance topics. This person will be responsible for the following key areas:  Expert knowledge of, & ability to design programs to comply with laws and regulations related to Export Compliance globally, must be proficient working with, and the requirements of, export compliance requirements (including extraterritorial) for US headquartered companies; must be proficient at providing strategic legal and trade advice in support of SaaS, Engineering equipment, technology, and licensed food items among others.  The incumbent must be able to influence and drive continuous process improvement, including risk and cost mitigation strategies.

Minimum

8-10 years progressive experience in complex CPG, legal, or consulting environmentsSpecialized, advanced knowledge in Export Compliance requirements. Expert communicator and project managerAbiltiy to work in a fast paced environmentAdaptableDue to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or have asylum or refugee status in the U.S.

Preferred

Export Compliance experience in CPG or other food environment Software, Technology, or engineering experienceLaw Degree or advanced education in compliance

What will be your key responsibilities?Design and Implement Mars export compliance program globally.Provide legal guidance and facilitate export compliance matters for segment stakeholders and senior Leaders.Provide Export Classification Process guidance and support to Engineering, Sales, Commercial, MGS, Legal & E&C organizations among others.Ideate, document, and implement export compliance policies, procedures, tools, and training programsEnsure compliance with all applicable export laws, regulations, and international trade controlsDetermine Export Commodity Control Numbers and validate supply provided data.Request and support export license authorizationsConduct internal investigations and assessment related to potential export compliance violations and to confirm internal adherence to Export Control standards.Respond to Government requests for information related to Export Control Measures, Audits, Sanctions, or other export focused requests.Advise on export compliance risks and provide recommendations for risk mitigationStay up-to-date with changes in export regulations and communicate updates to relevant stakeholdersWork with cross-functional teams to ensure export compliance in business operations and transactionsManage relationships with external legal counsel and government agencies related to export complianceDeliver savings and cost avoidance for Mars by ideating and implementing continuous improvements to trade processes and risk mitigation.Reviews Mars Commercial contracts for adherence to export control language and risks.Develops and influences adoptions of policies, identifies need, creates, implements, and updates SOP’s to reflect world class compliance standards.

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between the range listed below, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including but not limited to, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, if eligible, including variable pay, medical and dental benefits, participation in 401k plan, and paid time off benefits.  Eligibility for these additional elements depend on the position offered and the employee’s work schedule (i.e., part-time schedule, store associate).  Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an applicant receives an offer of employment.
