Location: Farmingdale, NY Category: Physical Plant/Facilities (including custodial) Posted On: Fri Sep 6 2024 Job Description: Facilities Operations at Farmingdale State College seeks a Trades Generalist. Qualified candidates should: + Have the ability to perform journey-level work in maintaining, repairing and installing building electrical systems, plumbing/HVAC systems, and or perform carpentry work. + Be skilled or semi-skilled in a combination of other trades in the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment. + Be able to supervise a group of employees. + Be able to orally communicate with others for the purpose of exchanging information and to give guidance on operations. + Have good knowledge of the agency's practices and procedures. Job Requirements: MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Plumbing/HVAC: Four years (4) of satisfactory mechanical including one year of experience in the operation and maintenance of commercial type refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment. Training in heating, refrigeration and air conditioning gained by the completion of technical courses at a school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year for year basis. Working knowledge of procedures, materials and tools used in the maintenance, repair and installation of equipment. Working knowledge of properties and qualities of various gases and solutions, ability to read and interpret technical manuals, specifications, blueprints and schematic drawings. Ability to recognize and rectify mechanical and electrical problems and to do other trade related work, ie; plumbing, carpentry and masonry. Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolds and work at heights. Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor. CFC certification preferred. Must have NYS drivers license. Electrical: Four (4) years of satisfactory electrical experience under a journey level electrician which would provide training equivalent to that gained in an apprenticeship program. Must be able to understand building blueprints. Hands on experience in working with other trades. Must be able to perform moderate to heavy manual labor. Required to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions. Ability to climb ladders and work at height on scaffolds and platforms. Ability to use the machines, equipment, power tools and materials of a variety of trades. Must have a valid NYS Drivers License. Must have the ability to read interpret and work from plans, drawings and specifications. Carpenter: Four years (4) of satisfactory full-time experience in carpentry under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in carpentry at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
