Trading Operations & Settlements Analyst II
Summary

Provides comprehensive services that support NYPA’s underlying mission of delivering clean, reliable power to its customers. This includes the complete energy value chain of forecasting needs, trading, origination, fuel purchasing and energy management.  Includes supporting technical analysis, compliance, and billing and settlement activities. Manages and operates the forecasting function which uses state-of-the-art methodologies for load forecasting challenges. Performs functions and activities related to energy trading and marketing.


Support the functions and activities related to energy trading including but not limited to fuel procurement & logistics, short-term trading, long-term trading, real time trading, bidding, forecasting, marketing and settlements. Analyzes current, historical, and projected volumes to determine trends and market outlook. Performs supply and demand analysis of one or more commodities in support of the trading function. Also manages all Long-Term customer sales, and revenue forecasting for various internal stakeholders throughout the enterprise.
 

Settlements

Review and Reconcile Settlements for NYISO transactions, Hedges, and Fuels and their associated expenses. Manage and file Regulatory Energy and Fuels reports to agencies such as DOE, DEC, EIA, and FERC in a timely and accurate manner.   Compile and organize internal reporting requirements.  This includes our internal bookkeeps as well as data for our internal customer invoices.  Reconcile and allocate our daily NYISO data w/our Accounting team to ensure and apply the proper allocation to each of our respective power plants.  In addition, we supply NYISO data to our invoicing team to accurately invoiced to our NYPA Customers. #LI-VB1 Responsibilities Analyze and help develop trading strategies for each NYPA portfolio as well as any associated market issues effecting overall NYPA trading and forecasting requirements Research, develop & support messages to NYPA's stakeholders (external & internal clients) by showcasing research analysis data to support thesis on portfolio strategies, risks, energy market events, financial impacts, cost-savings, cost-estimating, arbitrage opportunities, and other business critical decisions. Develop PowerPoint Slides, Scatter Plot Analysis, Box and Whisker Charts, Line/Bar Graphs, Tableau Dashboards, Power BI and Excel Macros based on critical information relevant to ERM business line. Perform independent regression analysis, normal distribution analysis, monte carlo simulations, and other financial-modeling methods to determine probabilistic energy forecasting. Research & analyze proposed changes to NYISO Procedures, Manuals and Technical Bulletins and discuss with Traders changes and any necessary implementation actions. Summarize Trader responses and work with the Market Issues Group to formally respond to the NYISO any issues affecting bidding and settlement rules.  Stay current with NYISO procedures, market issues and reports. Develop risk strategies to mitigate the volatility in the energy, capacity, and natural gas markets as well as emission products in keeping with the defined risk tolerances  Assemble real time market analysis relative to portfolio risk and utilize available instruments to implement risk mitigation strategies Support NYPA’s annual/monthly LFRP (Long Range Financial Plan) & COS (Cost of Service) process & deliver required generation dispatch, load forecasts, revenue forecast, capacity forecasts  Review & report past transaction performance metrics, variances and KPIs as they relate to NYPA’s portfolios & targets Provide support to all internal/external stakeholders for all Market transaction & forecasting related matters, inquiries, and analytics; this includes, Accounting, Financial Planning, Enterprise Risk, Demand Response, Pricing, NYISO, FERC, NERC, NPCC, IOUs, etc Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of Wholesale Electricity Market, Fuel Markets and/or associated Financial products. Strong business, statistical, financial and reasoning skills Advanced analytical and communication skills  General knowledge of accounting practices  Strong understanding of the economic impact of decisions within the position’s scope of authority. Skilled at adapting, multitasking and performing under pressure Able to work independently with minimal daily supervision Ability to apply Statistical Analysis and Financial Modeling on relevant data sets Knowledge of corporate strategies and goals, market rules and regulations, risk management protocols, and trade life cycle. Ability to propose strategies to react to a changing marketplace  Preferred experience of SAP, Allegro, Ascend, Tableau, Power BI & GE-MAPS Preferred experience in database programming and querying using SQL, MS Access, VBA, SAS, Oracle or other. Education, Experience and Certifications Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics or related discipline required.  Minimum of 4 years of related experience in an analytical role or equivalent combinations of education & experience.  Utility or Energy Company experience preferred 
  Physical Requirements

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is: $97,720.00 - $134,360.00. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
