HDR is looking to hire a Traffic EIT/Engineer in our Manhattan office who will help lead and grow the traffic engineering/planning practice in the NY/NJ market. The selected individual will also have the opportunity to work on projects across the country from other HDR offices.
Projects will range from traditional traffic engineering/planning studies to innovative solution development with advanced technologies for surface transportation. The range of projects that the individual in this position will work on may include:
Local, regional and statewide multimodal transportation plansCorridor studiesParking studiesTraffic engineering studiesHighway/roadway safety analysesTravel demand forecastingTransportation planning reportsTransit studies (rail and bus)Bicycle and pedestrian studiesCorridor signal timing and optimizationTraffic signal design / ITS designRoadway and bridge projects with major traffic analysis and design componentsDesign-build projects with major traffic analysis and design componentsTransportation researchMust be able to independently manage large and small transportation projects. Would be responsible for developing business relationships through client interaction, project pursuits, and general marketing activities.
In the role of Traffic EIT/Engineer, we'll count on you to:Work as part of a traffic team under the direction of the Project Engineer/Manager on a variety of traffic forecasting, analysis and design needs for a variety of transportation projectsConduct operational traffic analysis using a variety of modeling tools, ranging from highway capacity software to complex micro simulation models; analyze everything from isolated intersections and roundabouts to urban arterials and freeway segmentsFocus on traffic design, including accident analysis and mitigation strategies, signing, striping, traffic signals, lighting, and Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS), including real-time traffic information, adaptive signal control, closed circuit television (CCTV), and variable message signs (VMS)Perform other duties as neededPreferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering or closely related fieldMasters degree in Operations/Engineering/Planning is preferredMinimum of 3 years in traffic engineering/transportation planning experiencePE requirement preferred. If a candidate is hired with a PE license they will be titled "Traffic Engineer"Computer skills using Microsoft Office, Synchro/Sim Traffic, HCS, AutoCAD and MicroStationValid driver's license required and ability to drive in the NY/NJ metro areaProgramming skills with Excel VBA, Python, or ArcGIS preferredActive involvement in professional societies is desirableTraffic engineering/planning experience with New York/New Jersey agencies, or equivalent DOT experience preferredLocal candidates preferred#LI-JC7
Required QualificationsBachelor's degreeEngineer in Training (EIT) certificate
Conduct traffic design using CAD platforms including MicroStation, Autocad and Guide Sign software
Conduct operational analysis using a variety of analysis and modeling tools specific to support job duties, including HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, and Aimsun
Conduct safety analysis using a variety of safety software tools including Highway Safety Software
