DESCRIPTION
As a part of our Transportation Engineering Team, the Traffic Lead will be responsible for transportation engineering analysis and design efforts on Michigan DOT and municipal projects. They will leverage the transportation engineering knowledge and skills to prepare engineering plans, calculations, reports, technical specifications, technical proposals, and construction estimates and schedules. This is a full-time position that requires expertise and experience with traffic impact studies, capacity analysis, parking studies, traffic simulation modeling, crash analysis and safety evaluation, and preparation of technical reports and proposals. Tasks will include traffic design and construction plans such as signing and pavement markings, signalization, lighting, and ITS plans. You will have the opportunity to grow and build a traffic department within the Detroit office while supporting and guiding experienced engineers on projects within the Great Lakes Region. You will assist or lead in the pursuit of work including proposal writing.

Most days will be spent in the office managing and carrying out the traffic engineering tasks on a variety of surface transportation design projects. Many of these projects will begin in the traffic forecasting, proceed through traffic analysis, and conclude with the design of traffic control devices, systems, and plans; and may include ITS systems. Coordinating with colleagues across the region, you will support the Transportation Engineering Team by preparing scopes and fees for traffic engineering tasks, organizing personnel to complete tasks, and attending technical meetings with agency staff and clients. PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation Planning or related field 10+ years of progressive traffic engineering design and operational experience Michigan PE license, with ability to obtain licensing in other states. P.T.O.E. preferred but not required. Experience with MDOT standards and traffic engineering design. To be successful, you will need to be bright, organized, and determined; you will also need to be able to build relationships with a wide variety of people. You will need the ability to multitask and prioritize competing project obligations. You will need to be able to quickly get up to speed on our policy, procedures and relevant software while acquiring an understanding of the company’s service offerings, and the client’s standards and procedures relevant to your projects. Attention to detail, effective decision making, and organizational skills - Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to manage and prioritize project assignments to meet competing deadlines and manage staff. Ability to work independently and within a team setting to support project delivery. Expectation to grow a Traffic Team and be able to do some Business Development, relationships with MDOT and municipalities is a bonus. Availability to occasionally travel to other local offices. Computer skills should include Microsoft Office and traffic analysis software such as HCS, Vissim, and Synchro/SimTraffic, with the ability to use CAD software (MicroStation).COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $105,989 to $174,870. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
This position can be worked in office or hybrid in Michigan. The Michigan office was established in 2018 and has grown during that time to a total of 40 employees. The MBI Michigan office is in downtown Dearborn with free parking located adjacent to the office and shopping close by within walking distance. Michigan departments include roadway, drainage, bridge, and construction.
