Role description:

Arcadis seeks a Traffic Management Center (TMC) Supervisor to join the team in Nashville, TN. In this role you will assist the Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) by overseeing their TMC operations. At Arcadis, we want to put our people first. This full-time position may have varying work schedules and may have on-call responsibilities. In this role, the TMC Staff will work with other Department personnel to keep the city and regional transportation system moving safely and efficiently through the coordinated use of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Signals, improved communications, and incident management techniques.

Role accountabilities:

This position directs the daily operations activities of the TMC following the Policies and Procedures Manual (PPM) and Concept of Operations (COO), the DOT’s protocols and policies, and is responsible for the overall operations and functionality of the TMC Operations Floor. Ensures that TMC operations follow policies, and industry standards. Leads and manages contract on-site staff, including the other TMC supervisors and traffic system operators. Conducts performance reviews and corrects performance issues when necessary. Responsible for ensuring that the goals and strategies of the TMC operations plan are followed. Conducts the day-to-day management of the TMC staff and resources including problem resolution concerning TMC operations and personnel matters. Maintains close communication and coordination with the TMC Manager, TSMO Manager, and partner agencies, where applicable. Attends meetings as directed by the NDOT to ensure appropriate intra and interagency coordination. Participates in periodic Traffic Incident Management (TIM) meetings, Critical Incident Reviews, and other TIM activities and ensures appropriate interagency coordination. Prepares monthly reports of personnel performance measures for operators and supervisors. Identifies measures of effectiveness for the TMC in terms of efficiency and effectiveness in providing transportation management, traveler information, and incident management. Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on the system's performance based on these measures of effectiveness. Responsible for ensuring that changes are documented and communicated efficiently to the Traffic Operations Staff. Responsible for developing and modifying training materials and updating the training to conform to updates. Responsible for the training of all operators and certification process documentation. Writes or oversees the writing of technical documents for the TMC, including but not limited to TMC PPM, QRG, and training manuals. Ensures full staff coverage of TMC operations. Other duties as assigned.

Additional Notes

Generally indoor controlled-climate work environment. Occasional field trips or site visits may be required. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods. Must be able to travel and be physically present at the TMC independently.

Qualifications & Experience:

Associate degree in Public Administration, Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Engineering, or work history equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred Minimum of Three (3) years of experience in TMC operations as a Traffic Systems Operator, TMC Supervisor, and/or TMC Assistant Manager. Traffic Signal/ Arterial Management experience preferred Previous experience managing people and knowledge of key management concepts Prior knowledge of Traffic Monitoring Software and related systems and ITS principles. Skills in leadership, interpersonal relationships, and ability to work well within a group. Ability to communicate technical information verbally and in writing in non-technical language. Ability and willingness to work alternate work schedules and be "on-call" when requested. Skills in the use of arterial and interstate management and ATMS applications. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to coordinate real-time activities and priorities.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
