Traffic Specialist
**Title:** Traffic Specialist **Location:** United States-Illinois-Wood Dale **Job Number:** 16267 The Traffic Specialist assists transportation operations across all AAR business units and locations, to support daily shipping activities, routing guide compliance, apply freight cost to proper General Ledger (GL) accounts when necessary, and interactions with 3rd Party Freight Payment & Audit provider. When necessary, the Traffic Specialist will provide general knowledge of import and export procedures to ensure compliance or engage the appropriate department as necessary for guidance. **What you will be responsible for:** + Work with facilities, shipping department and freight forwarder personnel to arrange, expedite and negotiate any special or critical shipments, both domestic and international, inbound and outbound. + Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the company, and supplier community, maintain professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities. + Serve as the single-point-of-contact (SPOC) to support field operations to secure spot quotes, shipping guidance, shipment status updates, tracking delays, and filing loss & damage claims, or as necessary + Confers with appropriate internal and external stakeholders to ensure required procedures are followed. + Provides instruction, training and answers questions relating to transportation procedures and serves as liaison between the business unit, freight forwarder and AARs vendors. + Review invoices in AARs freight pay and audit system to understand and resolve payment issues and discrepancies. + Work with freight pay provider and carriers to resolve invoice rejections to ensure invoices are processed and paid timely. + Learn and understand AARs GL (General Ledger) cost center coding logic to allocate freight costs to each specific business unit. + Utilize appropriate GL coding to freight invoices where necessary. + Review weekly freight files to ensure both Suppliers and AAR personnel are utilizing AAR preferred carriers, and are compliant to AARs routing guide Review Carriers service levels each quarter (on-time delivery, responsiveness, OS&D claims, etc.) + Apply a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, verify documents for completeness and compliance with US Customs and US Census Department. + Ensure that adequate and continuous controls are exercised over all assigned activities affecting the quality and performance of the Traffic department. + All other duties as assigned. Qualifications: **What you will need to be successful in this role:** + Associates degree or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school, or four years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. + Hands-on Transportation operations highly desirable.
