Job Summary
Under general supervision, performs monitoring and visitor assistance in City Parks and River walk activities; ensures compliance with all park rules, regulations and City ordinances; and provides information pertaining to park use, safety requirements, and points of interest. Exercises no supervision.
This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.
Work Location
This position is assigned to the Greenway Trails, which is primarily outdoors at locations listed below.

+ Eisenhower Creek Greenway
Work Schedule
4-hour shifts with an average of 16 - 20 hours per week. Shifts will vary from daylight hours of operations to late afternoons based on departmental needs. Operations take place Monday - Sunday.
Essential Job Functions
+ Ensures the safety and protection of the users of the City's parks and recreational resource facilities, visitors of the River Walk, and the City's natural resources.
+ Ensures compliance with all park rules, regulations and City ordinances.
+ Provides information and assistance to patrons and visitors pertaining to park usage and restrictions, safety requirements, general directions, and points of interest.
+ Identifies and reports any safety hazards or hazardous conditions including flood control requirements, as well as any needed routine maintenance or repairs within assigned park areas.
+ Opens and/or closes designated parks and facilities each day and during flood conditions.
+ Performs Pre- and Post-Event inspections at mass picnic pavilions.
+ Monitors crowds, use, parking, and security component throughout the event to ensure lease/permit compliance.
+ Patrols parks and recreational areas, including the River Walk by a variety of methods to include motor vehicle, bicycle, ATV, and foot.
+ Provides first aid assistance.
+ Prepares reports as necessary.
+ Provides traffic and parking assistance in city parks.
+ Enforces applicable parking restrictions and or rules.
+ Depending on area of assignment, may operate sound meter to ensure noise levels comply with City ordinance requirements.
+ Utilizes hand tools as necessary to make immediate repairs until other staff are able to respond, frequently lifting and carrying equipment or parts weighing 25 pounds and 75 pounds with assistance.
+ Requests law enforcement and emergency medical response as appropriate.
+ Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements
+ High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
+ Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
+ Within six (6) months of hire, attain ATV and bicycle certification.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Able to complete bike training, CPR/First Aid certification
+ Ability to ride long distances on a bike for long periods of time in local weather conditions including high-heat, humidity, rainy or cold, windy conditions.
+ Terrain can be hilly and will require the bike to be walked up and down a hill.
+ Must be able to monitor trails over long distances as established by defined assigned trail segment.

+ Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
+ Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Knowledge of applicable park rules, regulations and City ordinances.
+ Skill in operating a sound meter, depending on area assignment.
+ Ability to operate business software, business machines, TTY equipment, and radio system.
+ Ability to operate hand tools.
+ Ability to respond rapidly and effectively in emergency situations.
+ Ability to prepare accurate written reports.
+ Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
+ Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
+ Working conditions are inside and outside with occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions and emergency situations.
